Show Your Wound

"Show your wound"

is a phrase borrowed from the artist Joseph Beuys in which he sought to confront us with our vulnerability, handicaps, traumas, and other challenges and struggles which are part of the tapistry of life.

We usually have a tendency to hide these “weaknesses” of ours because they don’t fit into the perfectly manicured world of facebook and instagram.
Beuys already recognized in the 70’s that hiding our "shadow" from others only worsens our conditions, for in order to heal and improve, we have to show our wound, i.e. acknowledge that it exists in the first place.

Now, this SlowTalk is not a therapy session to fix anybody’s adversities, but acknowledging them together with other is usually the first step to ease the pain. This SlowTalk is also not a self help group, so no solicited or unsolicited advice! When somebody is ‘showing’ their wound, all others listen.
Why?
To give the speaker a chance to find the right words to say what they need to say. And listening plays an important role in this process. Active listening allows the other to express something which he otherwise could not have said or would not have had the courage to express.

In this sense, today’s SlowTalk is more of a meditative reflection, as well as a slow speaking exercise and a active listening effort.
