THE TALKS
Intro to Open Policy Agent

  • In the talk, I will show how Open Policy Agent (OPA) and policy-as-a-code address a wide range of problems from implementing policies, and checks, to application customization and configuration. Policy-as-a-code has benefits, but also limitations that I am going to cover as well.

External Secrets Operator: A Cloud Native way to manage your secrets

  • Managing secrets in Kubernetes can be a cumbersome job. How do you store and rotate your credentials currently in your project? With External Secrets Operator (ESO for short) we leverage multi-featured solutions like AWS Secret Manager, Azure Key Vault and Hashicorp Vault to manage your sensitive data declaratively and securely. You end up with native Kubernetes secrets in your cluster, synchronized continuously with your external provider. In this presentation, we are going to talk about the origins of ESO and the different projects that wanted to solve the same problem. The open-source centralized solution was developed with the help of the community. The first half of the talk will be us telling you ESO’s story, and the second half will be a demo of ESO in action.

THE SPEAKERS
Wojciech Barczyński is a VP of Engineering at Spacelift, a Golang developer, and a CloudNative practitioner. At Spacelift, he works on a collaborative platform for Infrastructure-as-a-Code - all in Go with heavy use of AWS Lambdas, various CloudNative projects, and the OpenPolicyAgent framework. He has many years of experience as a technical lead, system engineer, and developer. He led platform teams at Codility and the engineering at Hypatos (Fintech/ML SaaS).

Charl Klein is originally from Pretoria in sunny South Africa, currently working as a Cloud Native Engineer with Container Solutions based in the Netherlands.
What started with DOS on the family 386, turned into a passion. Charl has been in the industry for just over 10 years, working in a variety of roles, companies and industries. Including Desktop/Network Support, ITSM Platforms, Development, Pre-Sales, DevOps, and Cloud. He holds numerous certifications in Azure and Kubernetes and is actively pursuing a BSC in Cyber Security. The rest of his time is spent looking after his 3 Doggos, and dabbling with Electronics and 3D Printing.

We look forward seeing you in your summer attire!
Sevi, Tomasz & Tereza
