Session Information
- A Journey to Greatness!
As Booking.com undergoes its tech modernization, we will cover a high-level journey of the past 5 years, talking about where we came from, how we became a tech focused company, and where we’re heading. We’ll go into more details about our plans for developer experience and the software development life cycle, and all the different angles we are considering when thinking about making developer’s lives easier. In this talk, we’ll touch on how Kubernetes, AWS, and Harness.io are helping us achieve these goals.
- DevOps at Scale
Advanced is the UK’s third-largest provider of business software and services. With a £254m turnover, 19,000+ customers and 2,800+ employees, it’s safe to say that operating DevOps at scale is important! Especially when you consider that there are more than 100 engineering teams, building over 100 products, currently operating across the business…
In this talk, I will share how Advanced currently operates DevOps at Scale, touching on the challenges encountered so far and sharing the insights gained through first-hand experience.
Takeaways from this session include:
- The importance of culture and how to foster collaboration across teams
- Why automation and repeatability are critical to success with DevOps tools
- How iterative and identifiable levels of maturity can help drive continual improvement
Venue Information
The venue, the Booking.com Headquarters, is located at The Bank on Herengracht 597, 1017 CE Amsterdam. Since street parking is very limited (and expensive), and parking garages are frequently full and hard to reach, we highly recommend contestants travel by public transportation, bike, or carpool.
- By Metro: The Bank office is at walking distance from the "Waterlooplein" metro stop. Take the North exit (Stopera/Waterlooplein/trams), and cross the "Blauwbrug" bridge towards Herengracht. You can take the metro from either Central Station (any metro), or when traveling from the south, from Amstel station (any metro towards Central), Zuid station (51 towards Central) or Duivendrecht station (54 towards Central).
- By Tram: The 4, 9, and 14 trams stop at Rembrandtplein and it is a short walk to Herengracht.
- By Car: The entrance to the parking garage at The Bank is located on Amstelstraat 12, 1017 DA. The price is €6 every 60 minutes.
- By P+R: see https://www.amsterdam.nl/parkeren-verkeer/parkeren-reizen/ for just €1 at ArenA with a direct metro connection to Waterlooplein, and you can get discounted metro tickets too (see the website).
