Using AI Without Losing Your Judgment is a hands-on, screen-free workshop for product people, designers, founders, and builders who use AI at work but don't want to become approval machines for confident robot output.
No tool demos, prompt magic, or "automate your job by Tuesday" promises. Instead, we'll go retro with paper canvases, sticky notes, real conversation, and actual human thinking.
Together, we'll explore where AI helps, where it creates blind spots, and where humans still need to slow down, question the output, and make the call.

What to expect:
You'll work in small groups to map what you already use AI for, what you feel tempted or pressured to hand over, and where your judgment needs to stay in the loop.
You'll leave with a simple frame for deciding what AI can help with, what humans must still decide, and what risks to watch before trusting the output.
Come with an open mind, a real work challenge, and a willingness to think without outsourcing the whole thing to AI. We'll close with social drinks.

Who is this Meetup for?
Product managers, designers, researchers, founders, developers, and builders are welcome. Spots are limited.
Agenda
17:00–17:15 - Welcome and introduction
17:15–18:30 - Interactive Activities
18:30–19:00 - Social drinks

🎮 Jeroen Derwort: AI in game design
🎬 Kseniia Saraieva: AI in art and filmmaking
🏛️ Alexandra Pankova: AI in architectural design

Together, we will explore how AI can support the creative process, enable new forms of expression, and change the way professionals approach design. We will also look at the questions that come with these developments: What remains uniquely human? How does the role of the creator change? And where does AI become a genuine creative partner rather than simply another tool?

As always with Pie & AI, the evening is not only about presentations. There will be plenty of time to meet others interested in AI, exchange ideas, and continue the conversation over food and drinks.

And of course, there will be pie! 🥧

🎤 Speaker bios and presentations:

🎮 Jeroen Derwort: AI in game design
Jeroen Derwort is GameLab Manager at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Chair of the Dutch Games Association. He founded Online Soccer Manager and led its developer, Gamebasics, for many years. Today, he combines game development, education and entrepreneurship to help the next generation of game creators succeed.

In this talk, Jeroen will share both GameLab and personal experiments with AI in game development, exploring both its creative potential and practical applications. He also examines the current state of AI and what it could mean for the future of making games.

🎬 Kseniia Saraieva: AI in art and filmmaking
Kseniia Saraieva is an AI filmmaker, curator and researcher working with generative AI in experimental film and visual storytelling. Her films have been presented at international festivals and cultural events across Europe, Asia and the United States. Alongside her filmmaking practice, she researches how audiences perceive AI-generated art and is the founder of Art Beyond Creator, an ongoing project exploring creativity, authorship and human perception in the age of AI.

In this talk, Kseniia will explore AI filmmaking through her own creative practice, showing how generative AI is changing the process of directing and visual storytelling. Through examples from her films and works in progress, she will demonstrate how an AI film develops from an initial idea through image and video generation, experimentation, selection and editing.
The presentation will also reflect on what happens to the role of the filmmaker when images can be generated in abundance: where creative control lies, how unexpected results become part of the process, and why artistic direction and taste become increasingly important.

🏛️ Alexandra Pankova: AI in architectural design
Alexandra is an architect at ZZDP Architecten and TU/e graduate, who explores how AI is reshaping the architectural profession. Since 2022, she has been experimenting with AI in her field, investigating its potential applications and how it can change the way architects think, design, and work.

The presentation will demonstrate the practical use of AI in architecture through a series of project case studies. It will highlight how AI can help address specific bottlenecks in the design and development process, while also reflecting on the challenges, limitations, and shortcomings that emerge in practice. The presentation will offer a grounded perspective on where AI can genuinely add value to architectural workflows and where its potential remains more complicated.

🗣️ Peter Becker - AI Translator
Peter Becker is lecturer at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, teaching in bachelor and master programs on data science & AI. He also provides in company training on AI and document management for governmental organizations.

Talk:
The Hague University has started a new master program: AI translator. What is an AI translator, why is it needed and what does a Translator do? Peter will talk about the challenges of AI implementations a translator faces.

🔐 Davide Cioccia - AI Security Engineer
Davide Cioccia is the founder of DCODX, an ethical hacking, and security training firm focusing offensive and AI security. Speaker and trainer at multiple international conferences like Black Hat, DEF CON, HITB, OWASP AppSec and NDC, he is currently leading the AI Security Engineer Netherlands chapter in Amsterdam.

Talk:
Everyone suddenly wants an AI Security Engineer, but nobody seems to agree on what that actually means. From breaking AI systems to securing agents, and from using AI to hunt vulnerabilities to redesigning Product Security itself, this talk explores AI for Security versus Securing AI and the strange mix of offensive, defensive, architecture, and AI skills behind this emerging role.

⚖️ Kanan Dhru - AI Governance Specialist
Kanan Dhru is a 3x legal innovation founder, investor, and academic working at the intersection of law, design, and technology. Kanan holds a law degree from the London School of Economics and a Masters in Public Administration. She currently serves as researcher at the Multilevel Regulation Lectorate in Legal Technology at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Beyond academia, she consults in the legal AI space, advising leading law firms and government bodies. She serves as an Operational Board Member of Legal Hackers, as well as serve as the Advisor to the Global LegalTech Hub and TEDLaw. As an entrepreneur, she founded Lawtoons, an award-winning legal design initiative that uses comics to make law accessible to children.

Talk:
AI governance is becoming a profession of its own. Across public and private sectors, organisations need people who can turn principles and regulation into everyday practice. This can take shape of risk assessments, audits, policies and accountability structures. My presentation will look at the roles taking shape in this intersection of law, technology and ethics, and at what are the newer skills being called for.
