New Years Eve Gathering: Karaoke, Board Games, Divination & Potluck
New Years Eve Gathering: Karaoke, Board Games, Divination & Potluck
New Year’s Eve at the Center ✨ Join us for a cozy, joy-filled evening as we welcome the New Year together—with love, laughter, and the simple magic of community. The night will unfold organically, guided by the energy and interests of everyone who gathers. We’ll have a potluck meal available throughout the evening, spaces to relax and connect, and you’re welcome to sleep over if you’d like (we just ask that you plan to head out early the next morning 🙂). Last year naturally blossomed into little pockets of joy—some folks playing board games, others exploring tarot or the I-Ching, and a group bravely singing their hearts out with karaoke. We imagine something similar this year. If you happen to have a karaoke machine we could borrow, please let us know! We’ll also have a warm fire going inside, and possibly a bonfire outside as well. Feel free to bring a drum or any musical instrument in case a spontaneous drum circle wants to emerge. What to bring: • Pajamas or comfy clothes (if that feels good) • A dish or drinks to share for the potluck • Sleeping items if you plan to stay over • Firewood if you’d like to contribute to the fire • Board games, tarot decks, or anything playful you’d love to share • Most importantly, a positive and open spirit 💛 Children are very welcome to join—parents remain responsible for their children at all times. And as a gentle reminder, please keep your speed under 10 mph on our driveway to help us care for and respect our neighbors. We can’t wait to ring in the New Year together, in whatever beautiful way the evening chooses to unfold. With love and gratitude

DC Kali's Beginner & Advanced Class - Wednesday Night Class
Covid Alert: We will start having classes again at Canal Park on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Please bring your own hand sanitizer, and mask are a must! We'll practice from a safe distance from each other; and progress from there. "DC Kali" is an official training group for FCS Kali. Our curriculum includes knifes, swords, stick-fighting, striking, and grappling; but we place a special emphasis on edged weapons. Please come out and learn some Kali. Our aim is to train hard, learn some sound defense strategies, and make friends along the way. Although FCS Kali is a combat-oriented systems that involves edged weapons, we provide a safe environment for learning w/o sacrificing realism in our training. We teach in small semi-private groups, allowing each individual student to progress as quickly as he or she can absorb the info being taught. Hope to see you all there. Mosi K. Jack, Esq. New Years Day Euchre and Potluck @ Jennifer's Place - Alexandria Euchre Club
New Years Day Euchre and Potluck @ Jennifer's Place - Alexandria Euchre Club
On Thursday January 1st from 2:00pm to 6:00pm Jennifer N. will be hosting a New Years Day Euchre and Potluck at her house to celebrate kicking off the 2026 Euchre New Year! When you RSVP please simply list what you'll be bringing as a side dish so Jen knows what to expect. Remember to bring your beverage of choice as well. There is visitor parking spots available on Manchester Way as well as Bedlington Terrace. Feel free to drop off something at the house first and then find parking. [CLICK THIS LINK FOR PICTURE](https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/a/4/3/highres_524762627.jpeg) Jen is moving soon, so this is a great opportunity to get some "one on one" time to hear all about her new house, future adventures, and to wish her well going forward. Looking forward to it! **+++++++++++++++++++++++++** **Other basic information about our meetup:** **+++++++++++++++++++++++++** 1. Every member of the Alexandria Euchre Club must know how to play the game of Euchre to attend a meetup. If you know the game, but it has been years since you've played, that is fine as we've all been there and will be patient while it all comes back to you. 2. We have a number of casual games going on all night. We also play stick the dealer (ask if you don't know this variation). 3. Euchre is a 4 person game. What this means is that if you sign-up, we are counting on you to be there. Please be considerate and make your final decision as soon as possible. The deadline for RSVP is 2 days prior to the meet-up. Please update by that time, especially if you are going to cancel your RSVP. This allows some time to try and fill out the tables. Of course, we understand that you may get sick on the day. We are happy to have you stay home if you get sick. 4. There are some costs associated with meetup--I have to pay Meetup every 6 months for listing on their website. They don't work off of advertising fees. We pass the bowl around and ask people to throw a $1 in each time they come.

The Let Go: 5Rhythms Friday Night
The Let Go: 5Rhythms Friday Night
To purchase tickets - https://www.annkite.com/friday-nights This is a group of up to 70 people that dance the 5Rhythms together weekly on Friday evenings. 5Rhythms® is a philosophy, perspective, performance art and a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness, and awareness into action. Wherever the 5Rhythms are practiced, a community is born to dance, to sweat, to change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the ego’s hold and awaken the juicy, unpredictable, fascinating, edge-walking, rock star part of ourselves that yearns to be free. Creativity. Connection. Community. There are no steps to learn. 5Rhythms can be practiced by anyone regardless of age, fitness, ability, or experience. For more information about what to expect in your first 5Rhythms class, see our About 5Rhythms page: https://www.annkite.com/about

The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer
The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer
I don't usually pick romance but I really wanted to do a Hanukkah book. It's a bit on the longer side but hopefully a quick read. The library only has 5 audiobooks so please try to remember to "release it" when you're done. Columbus libraries: [https://cml.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S105C3503238](https://cml.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S105C3503238) Location: The Goat Riversouth [219 South High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215](https://www.google.com/maps?q=219%20South%20High%20Street%2C%20Columbus%2C%20Ohio%2043215%2C%20United%20States) [Menu](https://static1.squarespace.com/static/686d3ed16745133042482c5f/t/68ff654dbb03b96875430bde/1761568077220/all_brunch-20250311.pdf) Book summary: Rachel Rubenstein-Goldblatt is a nice Jewish girl with a shameful secret: she loves Christmas. For a decade she’s hidden her career as a Christmas romance novelist from her family. Her talent has made her a bestseller even as her chronic illness has always kept the kind of love she writes about out of reach. But when her diversity-conscious publisher insists she write a Hanukkah romance, her well of inspiration suddenly runs dry. Hanukkah’s not magical. It’s not merry. It’s not *Christmas*. Desperate not to lose her contract, Rachel’s determined to find her muse at the Matzah Ball, a Jewish music celebration on the last night of Hanukkah, even if it means working with her summer camp archenemy—Jacob Greenberg. Though Rachel and Jacob haven’t seen each other since they were kids, their grudge still glows brighter than a menorah. But as they spend more time together, Rachel finds herself drawn to Hanukkah—and Jacob—in a way she never expected. Maybe this holiday of lights will be the spark she needed to set her heart ablaze.

Our January program is privileged to have Kristen Tregar as our speaker. Ms. Tregar is the co-author with John de Lancie (the actor who portrayed the character Q on Star Trek next generation) of a radio play depicting the events surrounding the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District trial. The trial decided the issue of some of the Dover school district board members attempting to insert creationism disguised as "intelligent design" into the 9th grade biology curriculum. She will discuss the trial and the process of writing the play. (Bob Leonhard has seen the play and it is riveting and tense). Ms. Tregar's bio is below: Kristen Tregar is a dramaturg, director, playwright, and theatre teacher. She earned her Ph.D. in Drama and Theatre from the UC San Diego and UC Irvine joint program. In addition, she has a MS in Forensic Science from City University of New York- John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a MA in Educational Theatre from New York University- Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. In 2013, in collaboration with Irish colleagues, she founded *The Ireland Project*, an intercontinental devised theatre work with high school students in New York and Tallaght, Ireland. Her original short story "Far From Here" was recently published in *Stay Awhile Longer: More Scenes From Temecula Valley*. She has two rescued dogs (Kira and Harry) and she rides, competes, and foxhunts with her horses, Andromache and Baker Street Irregular. Food and drinks will be provided at the event.
