Monday Night Boardgames
We’re back in 2026! Come play games with us!
This venue is definitely biased towards "euro" style games but any and all games are welcome. Members will bring games that they like. Anything that is fun to play and share is welcome!
Don't have a game, don't worry. We've got a decent selection, but you're always welcome to bring a game if you would like. Never played a board game before or it's been 20 years? No problem, we'd be happy to show you how to play. We love beginners, because we were all beginners at one point.
Life is full of stress, let Monday nights be a fun night. Some of the games our regulars own:
Settlers of Catan
Power Grid
Dead of Winter
Terraforming Mars
Stone Age
Elder Sign
Resistance/Avalon
One Night Werewolf
Hanabi
Race for the Galaxy
King of Tokyo
Puerto Rico
Ticket to Ride Europe

and Dark Moon
Also, come to a couple of Meetups and Grab your very own discount card for Mindgames in the CBD. For 10% off and other exclusive discounts.

Milkyway in Premium Location - One Solo Photo
Please note that **this event is not open for photographers** (no option to bring Camera/GoPro or tripod). I will be taking photos of people with the Milkyway. Please read the group rules before signing up.
Please follow these two steps to confirm your spot:
Step 1: Please RSVP to this event on meetup.
Step 2: Please get your ticket on Trybooking ($20 - Early Bird, $25 - Regular): [https://www.trybooking.com/DLMZV](https://www.trybooking.com/DLMZV)
We will scan Trybooking tickets at the meeting point.
Please note that Trybooking tickets will only be refunded if the event is moved or cancelled. Trybooking Tickets are non-refundable. There is no option to also transfer the ticket to a new date. I take one solo photo for everyone with the Milkyway. These events are not aimed at photographers.
Location: For the safety of people attending the event and flexibility to change location at the last minute based on the weather forecast, we will only share the location details with people at the meeting point. For the safety of people attending future events, please do not share the Milkyway location with anyone. Also, please do not tag the location when sharing photos on Social Media.
The Milky Way Galaxy is one of the most interesting naked eye sights in the night sky. We live under light-polluted skies, and to see a glimpse of the Milkyway, we need to travel outside the city. We run Milkyway events near Melbourne (40-50km away) and events in premium locations (over 80-100km from Melbourne CBD). We will mention premium events on the title of the event.

Explore Melbourne is the largest meetup group in Australia. We have seven simple rules in place to protect our community and for everyone to have a positive experience.
❌ **Not a dating group!** – We’re here to make friends, not find soulmates. No flirty business, please!
📵 **No phone numbers**, please! – Feel free to swap social media if both parties are cool with it, but let’s keep our digits private. Please **don’t add people to WhatsApp or other groups**.
🔞 Our events are only **open to people aged 18 and older**.
📢 Please **do not advertise other events or groups**.
😅 **Don’t be a social octopus!** – Give people space to chat with others. Please don't be clingy.
🚗 We **don't allow carpooling** due to safety incidents/our public liability insurance not covering motor related accidents.
💰 **No sales pitches!** – No selling, no MLMs, no pyramid schemes, no “life-changing mentorship” offers—let’s keep things scam-free.
By joining this event, you’re giving us a virtual pinky promise 🤝 that you’ll follow the rules. Break them, and—poof!—you’re out for good. No second chances, no do-overs. Let’s keep it fun, friendly, and drama-free!
**Liability Waiver:**
The organizer of this group cannot accept any liability for any loss, damage, injury, or accident to participants or their property at this event. By participating in this event, you're taking responsibility for your safety and well-being. By joining this event, you agree to the liability waiver mentioned here: [https://exploremelbourne.au/explore-melbourne-liability-waiver/](https://exploremelbourne.au/explore-melbourne-liability-waiver/)
Queer Meditation
Join Queer Meditation Melbourne for an evening of self-exploration and mindfulness in a safe and inclusive space. After the meditation practice, we will engage in social activities, promoting healthy living and dining out experiences. This event is designed for gay men and gay and lesbian friends who are looking to nurture their spiritual journey while building connections within the community. Come together to foster a sense of belonging and support each other in a space that celebrates diversity and self-care.

50+ Filmmakers/Actors Gather Every Wednesday - Join Us!
Join us every **Wednesday at 5 PM** at the Emporium food court (located behind Grill’d Burger Restaurant in the CBD, not near Melbourne Station) for a dynamic networking event tailored for filmmakers, actors, and film enthusiasts. Afterward, we continue the evening with Happy Hour drinks at a nearby bar and a chance to grab dinner together. Understanding that schedules vary, feel free to join at any time that suits you. Rain or shine, our community has gathered every week for the past year, maintaining a consistent and welcoming environment.
Our group has grown remarkably, with a **weekly turnout of over 50 participants**, blending newcomers with regulars to create a vibrant, diverse community. Feel free to bring friends interested in filmmaking; it’s a great way to introduce new faces to our expanding network.
Whether you’re a writer, actor, animator, or independent filmmaker, come share your experiences, discuss current projects, or chat about favorite films. This event fosters connections among like-minded individuals, encourages friendships, and opens doors for collaboration.
At **7 PM**, we move to The Carlton Club, a five-minute walk away, where we continue networking in a more formal rooftop setting over drinks and food. This change of venue offers an ideal environment to keep conversations flowing.
**RSVP** to help us gauge attendance and become part of a growing network of film professionals and enthusiasts. Though the event begins in the afternoon, the relationships you build here can last well into the night and beyond.
**What to Expect:**
*Our Wednesday meetup is primarily a large networking event for industry professionals. There’s no set theme, workshop, or speaker. It’s a relaxed gathering where filmmakers, actors, and creatives can connect, discuss projects, share needs, and learn from each other. Conversations flow freely around the table, fostering an environment of growth and camaraderie. Beyond Wednesdays, we also host exclusive events such as table reads, cinematography workshops with Panasonic, member screenings, and more. Each week brings fresh dialogues—some participants discuss their weekend shoots, others exchange insights with seasoned producers and directors, and a few engage in filmmaking exercises. It’s a space designed for creative engagement without strict structure or formal oversight.*
*Note: Our community emphasizes collaboration, friendship, and goodwill rather than promotional activities. If you wish to promote a workshop, course, screening, or similar event, please contact the organizers first. Promotional privileges are generally reserved for trusted, long-standing members.

Premiere of Michael (biopic) @Rivoli Cinema
Our first event will be biographical film *Michael*, which chronicles the life and legacy of the “King of Pop” Michael Jackson.
Ever controversial and deeply polarising, Michael Jackson’s impact on music and pop culture is undeniable — his influence continues to shape artists and audiences across generations.
The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua (*Training Day*), written by John Logan (*Gladiator*), and produced by Graham King, who previously produced the Oscar-winning Freddie Mercury biopic *Bohemian Rhapsody*. It traces Jackson’s journey from his early fame with the Jackson 5 to his rise as a global solo superstar, aiming to present a “humanised but not sanitised” portrait of his life — balancing his extraordinary artistic legacy with the controversies that surrounded him.
I'm sitting in K-17 and there are tonnes of seats left around me and the row behind.

Chaos, Youth, and the American Dream: A Harmony Korine Discussion
Join us for a discussion of two provocative and polarizing films by Harmony Korine: Gummo and Spring Breakers.
Rather than watching the films together, this meetup is dedicated entirely to conversation—an open space to unpack Korine’s unique cinematic language, his fractured portrayal of American youth, and the uneasy line between beauty and decay that runs through his work.
We’ll explore Gummo as a collage of post-tornado suburbia, where narrative dissolves into atmosphere and the grotesque becomes strangely intimate. Then we’ll turn to Spring Breakers, a hypnotic, neon-soaked fever dream that both seduces and critiques the mythology of pleasure, excess, and escape.
Topics may include:
• Non-linear storytelling and anti-narrative structure
• The aesthetics of trash, surrealism, and documentary realism
• Youth culture, alienation, and moral ambiguity
• Repetition, sound, and image as emotional rhythm
• Korine’s relationship to American myth-making
Whether you admire, resist, or feel conflicted about these films, this is a space for thoughtful and critical dialogue. No prior expertise required—just bring your impressions, questions, and curiosity.
Melbourne Founder Roundtable (Live) — Real Business Case + Structured Discussion
**Most networking events are easy to attend - and easy to ignore.**
**This is a working session for founders who are serious about moving something forward.**
**What this is:**
This is a small, in-person founder roundtable.
One or two real business situations are presented and worked through live.
Not hypotheticals.
Not theory.
Actual constraints.
**What we work through:**
* What is actually trying to be achieved
* What is getting in the way
* What may be misdiagnosed
* What the real constraint is
* What should happen in the next 7 days
**Then: Structured Founder Conversations**
You won’t be left to casual networking.
You’ll take part in short, focused discussions where:
* you apply the same thinking to your own situation
* you speak with multiple founders
* you leave with one clear next step
**WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT**
Most events optimise for:
* attendance
* volume
* energy
This one optimises for:
**clarity, constraint, and follow-through**
**WHO THIS IS FOR**
* founders
* business owners
* consultants
* operators
* people actively building something
**WHO THIS IS NOT FOR**
* casual networking
* passive attendance
* startup pitching
* people “just exploring ideas”
**IMPORTANT — THIS IS NOT A STANDARD RSVP**
To keep the room focused and intentional:
👉 You must register via a private page
👉 Spaces are limited
**Register here:**
https://meetups.aqmeets.com/
**VENUE SECTION**
📍 Melbourne (CBD location — confirmed after registration)
This is a small, in-person session.
Details are shared after registration to maintain a focused group.
**FINAL NOTE:**
If you’re tired of thinking about what to do next - and want to actually decide and move -
this will feel different.

Disc Tues / Choose Your Movie: THE CHRISTOPHERS vs NORMAL at the Gateway!
Join us as we get together for a Discount Tuesday / Choose Your Movie event to see your choice of two great new films! Option 1 (and the one I'll be seeing) is the top-reviewed comedy-drama, THE CHRISTOPHERS! The film is set in the art world and follows the estranged children of a former artist who hire a forger. It is directed by Steven Soderberg, stars Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel and has been earning rave reviews on the indie circuit. Option 2 is the latest action-thriller starring Bob Odenkirk, NORMAL! The film follows a temporary small-town sheriff who uncovers dark mysteries after a local bank robbery. Here are descriptions, trailers and our plan for this event:
THE CHRISTOPHERS: The children of a once famous artist hire a forger to complete some unfinished, long ago abandoned canvases so they'll have a better inheritance when he dies. It is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, Jessica Gunning and James Corden. BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film is earning an excellent 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes where critics call it a “dynamic, emotional and surprising journey” and a “compelling chamber piece that works like intellectual comfort food.” Others call the film, an “incredibly funny, comedy drama with plot reversals that make it feel like it’s on the verge of a thriller!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H79-EqzmdwY&t=20s
NORMAL: This action-crime-thriller follows a man who comes to the sleepy town of Normal, Minnesota to serve as the temporary sheriff. But a bank robbery leads him to a criminal underground reaches throughout the entire town. The film is directed by Ben Wheatley and stars Bob Odenkirk, Henry Winkler and Lena Headey. The film comes from the same team that brought us Nobody and the John Wick series, so expect an over-the-top, action-filled thrill ride! TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rmm-lM33Qw0&t=19s

City Lights (1931)
"The SOB is a ballet dancer. He’s the best ballet dancer that ever lived, and if I get a good chance I’ll kill him with my bare hands." - W.C. Fields
In *City Lights*, Chaplin's Little Tramp meets a blind girl selling flowers who mistakes him for a wealthy man. When he learns that an operation may restore her sight, he sets off to earn the money she needs to have the surgery. He also befriends an alcoholic millionaire who only recognizes him when he is drunk. When the blind girl and her grandmother fall behind in the rent and face eviction, he tries working and even enters a boxing competition to raise the money they need.
Regarded as Chaplin's masterpiece, *City Lights* has been ranked on more than seventeen "100 greatest movies of all time" lists. Orson Welles cited it as his favorite picture.
*City Lights* is available for streaming on Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBOMax, Tubi and PlutoTV. The Columbus Library lists three copies on blu-ray and eight copies on DVD. Watch the movie on your own, then join us upstairs at East Market to discuss the film.
