Shut Up & Write! [Amsterdam/ IJburg]
Shut Up & Write! [Amsterdam/ IJburg]
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at Factor-ij Amsterdam on Thursday mornings. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 11: 15 AM - Quick introductions 11: 30 AM - Timer starts: write for 1 hour 12: 30 PM - The End: chat, take off, or keep writing OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 12:30 pm after the writing is wrapped. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at Factor-ij! What Should I Bring? Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Please come with your devices pre-charged, since we probably won't be always sitting somewhere with charging possibilities. Other Important Details: Travel by public transportation: 1. Take Tram 26 from the central station Amsterdam, and step out by the last stop. 2. Take bus 66 from the Amsterdam Bijlmer station, step out by Pieter Oosterhuisstraat, and further walk in the direction of the bus till the corner. FREE Wifi. Compulsory consumption is not required, but please do order a drink to honor our generous host.

If you are living in The Netherlands, by now, you may well have noticed the amount of open water. If you enjoy cycling in the city, you may wish to feel safer as you navigate the bridges and canals. And you may also want to get ready for visiting the beach, pools or the many lakes this summer. Learning how to swim takes approx 1 year and it all starts with the very first lesson. New comers enroll via our website and pay € 30,50, this is the first lesson and a goody bag. After the class you agree with the personal swim coach how to continue to obtain your final objectives. Enrolling is only possible via [www.your-personal-swim-coach.nl ](https://www.your-personal-swim-coach.nl/)hence a rvsp via meetup is not enough.

After New Year's walk drinks @ Taplokaal Gist, Utrecht
For the New Year, we're going to do something a little different than usual: we're going for a walk in the evening, around the city center of Utrecht, and for drinks afterwards! For all info about our New Year's walk, please check this event: https://meetu.ps/e/PKzvZ/14lh7Q/i Afterwards we're going for drinks at Taplokaal Gist, nearby to the start and end point of our New Year's walk. Please register for the drinks in this separate event, so we can reserve enough space for our group. If you can't join to our New Year's walk, but still would like to come to Taplokaal Gist, you're welcome to join for the drinks. We expect to arrive at Taplokaal Gist after our walk at around 9.15PM. Do you think about joining, but you're not sure if it's something for you? Let us explain. Utrecht Hiking Community aims to organise one hike per month in or around Utrecht. If you're in for a hike with a bunch of friendly other hiking enthusiasts, you're very welcome to join, no matter whether you're an expat, local, nomad, student, professional, beginner, alone or with friends. The hikes are a way to meet people while being active and going to places you otherwise might not be going to. We call this 'Social Hiking'. If your aim is to hike fast, we might not be the right hiking group for you though. We're organising our hikes together with UR-Glocal, the organisation of expats in Utrecht Region organising several kinds of activities. At the nearby Vaartsche Rijn train station there is a bike shed and a parking garage. For those coming by car, the hourly rate in this parking garage is €3,50, but they also have an evening ticket, valid from 7PM until midnight, for €8,73 (if the prices don't change for the New Year). For an impression of previous hikes, check our Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/utrecht.hiking.community If you're having any questions, please let me know. See you at Taplokaal Gist on Saturday 3rd of January, around 9.15PM!

IN-PERSON Book Club Meeting - I WHO HAVE NEVER KNOWN MEN by Jaqueline Harpman
IN-PERSON Book Club Meeting - I WHO HAVE NEVER KNOWN MEN by Jaqueline Harpman
'I WHO HAVE NEVER KNOWN MEN' by Jaqueline Harpman "As far back as I can recall, I have been in the bunker." A young woman is kept in a cage underground with thirty-nine other females, guarded by armed men who never speak; her crimes unremembered... if indeed there were crimes. 'The youngest of forty—a child with no name and no past—she survives for some purpose long forgotten in a world ravaged and wasted. In this reality where intimacy is forbidden—in the unrelenting sameness of the artificial days and nights—she knows nothing of books and time, of needs and feelings. Then everything changes... and nothing changes. A young woman who has never known men—a child who knows of no history before the bars and restraints—must now reinvent herself, piece by piece, in a place she has never been... and in the face of the most challenging and terrifying of unknowns: freedom.' Please read the book and join us for a lively discussion (in English) about the contents during our afternoon book club meeting. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- PLEASE NOTE: This is an IN-PERSON event in Amersfoort, The Netherlands. Please cancel your attendance in advance if you are unable to join, so that those on the waitlist can participate. Looking forward to seeing you all IN REAL LIFE then! Best regards, Sandra

Shut Up & Write!™ Easton Town Center
Shut Up & Write!™ Easton Town Center
We'll meet at The Capital One Café, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator. Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking! • What we'll do Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 10:00 - SESSION 1: quick intros. 10:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 11A-11:30ish. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you! • What to bring Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible. See you at The Café on Saturday!
