Uber Design Night - 7th Edition

Details
And we're back! After nearly three years of hiatus, we are excited to announce that Uber Design will be hosting our seventh edition of Design Night. This time around, our presentations will revolve around the topic of designing for accessibility. Come join us for a night of talks and networking!

Our Speakers:
- Erica Ellis, Senior Manager at Uber's Product Equity Design Team
Accessibility, inclusive design, product equity...what does it all mean? There is a growing wave in the tech industry to design and build for everyone not just the "average" user or the "80%". This means expanding what we know about who engages in the experiences we produce and what perspectives we prioritise in our solutions.
Our first speaker, Erica Ellis, is a Senior Manager within our Product Equity Design Team. Her work is grounded in human-centered design and continuously aims to create equitable experiences for everyone. She uses research and design to address issues like safety, oppression, exclusion, and bias. Whether the solution is a product, service, or process, it will be driven by ethics, empathy, human behaviour, and the inclusion of diverse perspectives.Come and learn about what all these terms mean, how to shift your thinking to be more inclusive, and how to start weaving this work into your day-to-day!
- Carolina Novais, Senior Product Designer at Salonized
Your product is improving, and people hate it.
Carolina Novais is a senior product designer at Salonized, a Dutch startup that provides a software with everything salons needs to manage their business, trying to make their work life easier. On her talk she is going to share with us the challenges, opportunities, contradictions and frustrations when redesigning a working tool that people uses every day, all the time.
- Anouk Perquin: Design and translation: enemies or friends?
Making your content available in multiple languages is probably the fastest way to make your product accessible for more people. At the same time, translation often is a blocker for designers – it limits creative freedom, leads to painful rework and hinders the time to market. In this talk I will show you how it is possible to have a smooth designer process, even if multiple languages are involved.
Our third speaker, Anouk Perquin, is consultant and thought leader in the translation industry. She brings methodologies like Lean and Agile to the world of translation, so that content can flow in all languages.
