🥾 Heather in Bloom - 20 km loop hike the Meinweg 🪻
It's the second half of August and that means the heather fields are in full bloom! We'll hike through varied landscapes; first we'll walk through grasslands before we enter the forest and cross the border into Germany. Here, we'll walk along the 'Rothenbach/Rode Beek' (=Red Brook, after it's red, iron-rich water), before arriving at restaurant Dalheimer Mühle. Here we'll take a break, and then continue on to the main attraction: the heather fields of the Meinweg, in full bloom!

Important: There are no public transport options other than the one at the start/end of the hike. Be sure you are fit enough to complete a 20 km hike!

📍When and where to meet?
We’ll meet at parking area 'Wandel Parkeerplaats' (https://maps.app.goo.gl/HZWETGR16E53nFKA8) at 11:45. We'll start shortly afterwards. Please aim to arrive a little early!

There is a bus stop close by (van der Landelaan, Herkenbosch at ~100 m distance), with buses departing from Roermond train station.

🏁 Finish
We’ll end the hike at the same spot we started — it's a loop hike!

🚗 Coming by car?
We are meeting at a free parking area, so parking is no problem.

⏸️ Planned Breaks

• 9.5 km: ~40 min break at Dalheimer Mühle, a restaurant just over the border in Germany.
• Other than this planned break, we'll take a short break (~10 min) around 5 and 15 km when we find a nice spot

👟 Good to know

• This hike is at your own risk. Please make sure you have appropriate insurance coverage for outdoor activities.
• I only see the initials of who paid (i.e. J. Doe instead of John Doe) with Tikkie, so please leave a note with your meetup name along with the payment so I can match payments easily.
• Bring snacks and lunch (in case the restaurant has no spots available), and at least 1.5 - 2 L of water.
• If you're bringing a friend, make sure they also register and pay.
