Sinds de eerste release in april 2005 is Git uitgegroeid tot een onmisbare tool. Miljoenen engineers en ontwikkelaars maken er dagelijks gebruik van (en breken hun hoofd over merge conflicten), maar hoe werkt Git nou eigenlijk? Wat zit er voor zwarte magie verborgen achter `git branch`? Waar komen toch al die onleesbare commit ids vandaan?

Tijdens deze kennissessie zal onze collega Jitse al deze vragen beantwoorden over de wondere wereld van Git. Speciaal voor de nerds (en overige aanwezigen) staat het fundament van Git centraal: datastructuren en algoritmes. Uiteraard komen er ook voldoende praktische tips voorbij om bijvoorbeeld merge conflicten te voorkomen en/of genezen.

After its first release in 2005, Git has become an indispensable tool for engineers and developers. Millions of people use Git daily (and run into merge conflicts), but how does it actually work? What magic hides behind `git branch`? Where do all the unreadable commit ids come from?

In this knowledge session, our colleague Jitse will answer all these questions about the wonderful world of Git. Especially for all nerds (and other attendees), the foundational technologies take center stage: data models and algorithms. Of course, more than enough practical tips and tricks will be shared so you can, e.g., fix or prevent your next merge conflict more quickly.
