Automating tasks with Fabric & Handling database migrations (#2)
Details
We're hosting our second Tech Talk meetup!
After our first meetup we've received quite a positive feedback on the presentation, but the location could have been chosen better. Therefore we've decided to redo the presentations in more accessible place. We hope, that all of you, who couldn't join the last time will join us this time.
For this meetup we've also slightly improved the presentations. Our new location is the Launch Cafe in Groningen. This location is known for their nice atmosphere and many meetups are then also hosted here. Hopefully this new location and new date makes it easier for people to join!
During this meetup we're going to talk about the following subjects:
# Speed up your development with Fabric
Deployment is known to be one of the tasks, that, when done manually, gets tedious very quickly. It's easy to make mistakes, especially if you are the new guy on the team and don't know the projects. If you've ever heard Raymond Hettinger, then you might be thinking: "There must be a better way". Together we'll explore one of those ways: a Python library called Fabric.
#Why Django database migrations matter, and why you have to understand the actual SQL
We're going to make a shallow dive into SQL and the DDL, and a deep dive into Django's migration system. Take-home message: without sufficient skill with SQL, you will sooner or later shoot yourself in the foot when trying to let Django's ORM manage your migrations.
The talks will be held in English.
