Over ons
Welcome to the Amsterdam Film Group. Join us as we explore the magic of cinema! Our group is dedicated to bringing "cinemates" (people who enjoy watching films with others) together to watch films in cinemas and engage in lively discussions afterward. Whether you’re into foreign films, sci-fi, classics, action, drama, or anything in between, there’s a place for you here.
The hosts will do their best to organize screenings of different genres of films at various cinemas in Amsterdam. Everyone is responsible for buying their ticket (a link will be posted in the event description). This is an open space where group members can organize film events themselves. The hosts will post events for films they are interested in, but we encourage everyone to do the same! If you find a film you'd like to watch together and discuss afterward, please feel free to post it in the WhatsApp Group. All film suggestions are welcome and encouraged!
Come for the films, stay for the conversation. See you soon!

Year: 2001About the film:
An exceptional, dream-like neon journey through nighttime Taipei, Millennium Mambo follows the magnetic Vicky, a barmaid caught between her possessive boyfriend and a gangster. Looking back from 2011 on her life ten years earlier, she drifts through a haze of trance techno, boredom, desire and shimmering city lights.
Hou Hsiao-hsien reunites here with cinematographer Mark Lee Ping-bin, creating a visually overwhelming, hypnotic portrait of the Asian “Nothing Generation.” Shu Qi is mesmerizing in the lead role, and the pulsating soundtrack won Best Sound Design at Cannes in 2001.Special note: Screening on 35mm from the Eye collection.
