This October we're heading to one of Germany's most picturesque regions for a weekend filled with fairytale castles, rolling vineyards, charming riverside towns, and, of course, exceptional Riesling wines. The Mosel Valley is famous for its dramatic landscapes, medieval villages, and some of the steepest vineyards in the world, making it the perfect destination for a cozy autumn escape with a small group of like-minded adventurers (12 people max).

Day 1 – Friday, October 23: Arrival & Mosel Vineyards
Our adventure begins at 8:31 AM from Amsterdam Centraal, where we'll board the train to Cochem (one easy transfer, in total 5 hours), arriving at 1:41 PM. For those who'd like to make the most of the day, there's also an earlier departure at 6:38 AM. Traveling by train feels like part of the adventure itself, watching the landscapes slowly transform from the Dutch countryside into the rolling vineyards of the Mosel Valley. It's a relaxed, romantic way to begin our weekend together.
After arriving in the beautiful village of Bruttig-Fankel, we'll check in wine house accommodations (double and twin beds) and settle in before heading out for a scenic walk through the surrounding vineyards. Our main plan is to keep the first day relaxed and explore the beautiful vineyards and surroundings of Bruttig-Fankel, enjoying our first panoramic views over the Mosel and its steep wine-covered hills.
However, if everyone arrives early enough, the weather is on our side, and the group is still feeling adventurous after the journey, we may spontaneously head towards Bremm and the famous Moselschleife instead (will require Uber as it is only 20 minutes against 1.2 hours by public transport). This spectacular viewpoint overlooks an almost perfect horseshoe bend in the Mosel, surrounded by the dramatic vineyards of the Calmont hillside. It would be an incredible bonus adventure to start our weekend—but we'll make the decision together depending on timing and the group's mood.
In the evening, we'll come back together for a well-deserved dinner at a traditional local restaurant, accompanied by regional Riesling and great conversations—the perfect start to our Mosel weekend.
Day 2 – Saturday, October 24: Wine Walk, Cochem & River Cruise
After breakfast we'll start the day with one of the Mosel Valley's highlights—a guided vineyard walk and wine tasting at a local winery (€30 - the tasting of 6 wines, tour and a wineglass.).
The Mosel is one of the oldest wine regions in Europe and is famous for producing some of the world's finest Rieslings. During the walk we'll learn how wine has been cultivated on these incredibly steep hillsides for centuries, discover the unique characteristics of the region, and, of course, taste several excellent local wines while enjoying spectacular panoramic views over the valley.
After the walk, we'll enjoy a well-deserved late lunch before spending some time exploring Cochem. With its colourful half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, lively market square, local wine shops, and scenic riverside promenade, Cochem is the perfect place for a relaxed afternoon.
At 4:15 PM, we'll board a scenic river cruise to Beilstein (€15). The one-hour journey will take us past vineyard-covered hills, small riverside villages, and some of the Mosel Valley's most beautiful autumn landscapes.
We'll arrive in Beilstein at approximately 5:15 PM. Often called the Sleeping Beauty of the Mosel, this tiny medieval village is known for its narrow lanes, historic houses, peaceful atmosphere, and romantic riverside setting. We'll have time to explore the village before enjoying dinner together in Beilstein.
After dinner, we'll return to Bruttig and relax after a full day of wine, beautiful landscapes, and charming Mosel villages.
Day 3 – Sunday, October 25: Fairytale Burg Eltz
After one final breakfast together, we'll travel to Moselkern, where our final adventure begins.
Today's destination is the breathtaking Burg Eltz, one of Germany's most spectacular medieval castles. Hidden deep within a forest valley and owned by the same family for more than 850 years, the castle has survived wars, revolutions, and the passage of time almost completely untouched. Often described as one of Europe's most beautiful fairytale castles, Burg Eltz looks as though it has been lifted straight from the pages of a storybook.
We'll enjoy a beautiful hike (around 12 km a round walk) through peaceful woodland before the castle suddenly appears between the trees. Those who wish can also explore the castle's impressive interiors (€14), filled with historic armour, artwork, and beautifully preserved rooms.
After taking in the incredible views and enjoying one last lunch together, we'll begin our journey back to Amsterdam—returning home with unforgettable memories, new friendships, and perhaps a bottle or two of exceptional Mosel Riesling.
Accommodation
We'll be staying in a cozy hotel-winehouse (double and twin rooms) in the peaceful village of Bruttig-Fankel, just a few minutes from Cochem. Breakfast is included both mornings, and room allocations will be arranged once the group is confirmed.

Train tickets → purchased individually (I'll share the recommended connections, flex bus/trains both ways around €110, only two trains both ways around €175)
Wine tasting and guided tour → €30
River cruise → €15
Public transport → free if our accommodation provides the regional guest pass (to be confirmed, they are trying to arrange it through another hotel. Otherwise, around €26 for the weekend)
Lunches & dinners → pay as you go.
