Tales of Resistance: Allegory & Myth - Artist Talk
Details
Hong Kong–born artist Kacey Wong returns to The Hague for a public talk at Leiden University!
Now living in exile in Taiwan and formerly a professor in Hong Kong, Wong draws on his personal experiences of political upheaval and displacement.
He will discuss the aesthetics of protest and how visual language emerges under censorship, authoritarian pressure, and political displacement. From Hong Kong to Taiwan and Ukraine, he explores how imagination can become a form of resistance and survival, weaving together three narrative threads: the 2019 anti-extradition movement in Hong Kong, Taiwan’s ongoing vigilance against authoritarian threats, and apocalyptic visions of a post-apocalyptic world shaped by conflict and displacement.
The talk accompanies his first solo exhibition in The Hague, presenting installation, photography, and satire as spaces for resistance, memory, and human dignity.
