The mission of CNPS is to conserve California native plants and their natural habitats; and increase understanding, appreciation, and horticultural use of native plants.
Did you know we have monthly general meetings at the library? These include informational presentations on all sorts of native plant-related topics, from botanical work done in our region to native plant gardening advice. These are at 7 PM, every 2nd Thursday of the month, at the Chico Branch of the Butte County Library (1108 Sherman Avenue, Chico CA).

Upper Bidwell Bioblitz 2026: Postponed

*Unfortunately, due to the very rainy forecast over this weekend, we have chosen to postpone this event to next month. The Upper Bidwell Bioblitz will happen **May 16th, 9 AM - 1 PM. ***

Join us for the Upper Bidwell Bioblitz 2026! Explore Upper Bidwell Park and join our first inaugural bioblitz, a community-driven effort to document the flora and fauna of Upper Bidwell Park! We will go out in groups to observe the plants, animals, and fungi of Upper Bidwell Park using the free app iNaturalist.
We will gather at the Chico Community Observatory in Upper Bidwell Park (1 Observatory Way, Chico, CA) to kickstart this event and have groups of people to walk the trails of Upper Bidwell Park recording iNaturalist observations. We will have people return to the observatory at 12:15 PM for a debrief and talk about our groups' findings!
This is a great way to learn about the flora and fauna of Bidwell Park while supporting global research and advocacy efforts!
iNaturalist is a free community science app that enables users to contribute valuable biodiversity data to a global database. You don't have to be knowledgeable about plant, bird, or insect identification to join us, or be experienced with iNaturalist! All expertise levels are welcome, and this is a great event for beginners.
Please register on our Zeffy page so we can share survey routes, safety guidelines, and instructions on how to download and use iNaturalist. All experience levels are welcome; curiosity is what matters most here. Attendees will need a smartphone.
