Book Description
Why do some communities thrive while others slowly disappear?

In The Business of Belonging, David Spinks explores what makes people feel that they truly belong to a group. Drawing on examples from businesses, online platforms, and local communities, the book examines how successful communities are intentionally designed, nurtured, and sustained over time.

Rather than focusing only on products or organizations, the book emphasizes the importance of shared identity, trust, participation, and meaningful relationships. It argues that strong communities do not emerge by accident—they are built through thoughtful leadership and consistent engagement.

Although many examples come from business, the ideas apply just as well to clubs, volunteer organizations, hobby groups, neighborhoods, and online communities.

At this event, we'll use the book as a starting point for a broader discussion about community building, belonging, and what brings people together.
