Abstract: Google Cloud Dataflow (http://www.vldb.org/pvldb/vol8/p1792-Akidau.pdf) (incubating as Apache Beam) provides a simple, unified programming model for both batch and streaming data processing. If only it wasn’t so low level and unfamiliar. In this talk - you will learn how Scio leverages Scala to provide much safer, engineer friendly API.

Presenter: Rafal Wojdyla

Rafal is an engineer focused on data infrastructure at Spotify. He has operated Hadoop clusters (of size from 1 to more than 2000 nodes). Contributor to snakebite (https://github.com/spotify/snakebite) - pure python HDFS client and Scio (https://github.com/spotify/scio) - Scala API for Apache Beam.
