Join The Hike Crew & Goombay Adventurers for the 4th Annual Water to Wine Hike—a DMV favorite that blends outdoor adventure with a well-earned reward.

We’ll kick things off with a scenic 4-mile moderate hike through Rosaryville State Park—good energy, great people, and plenty of laughs along the way.
After the hike, we’ll head to Robin Hill Farm & Vineyards to relax, connect, and celebrate with wine, food, and great company.

This is a 4-mile trail loop along gentle terrain.
The hike starts at the historic Woodlawn Manor. The trail traverses the dense woods and meanders across fields and streams, passing by hollowed out trees that may have been used as food caches, and boulders that marked property boundaries and may have been used as trail markers for escaping slaves.

We will pass the small freshwater spring that gave Sandy Spring its name and finally end up at a large, 300-year-old white ash tree that stood in the center of the historic community and would have been a beacon, guiding those escaping slavery to a place where they could find some brief shelter and supplies before continuing their journey further north.

The “Underground Railroad” was a 19th century loose secret network of people and places who helped enslaved persons seek freedom in northern free states, Canada and elsewhere.

WHAT TO WEAR:

• Comfortable, well-broken-in, sturdy walking shoes or ankle-high boots.
• Wear two pairs of socks; first layer is a thin pair that will absorb moisture (liner sock), and the second layer that will add for comfort and keep your foot dry (wool or thicker sock). Bring an extra pair in case you need to refresh
• Protective clothing should include:
• A hat or scarf for sun and bug protection
• Long comfortable loose-fitting pants or shorts with knee socks (for warm weather)
• A cotton blend shirt provides for better perspiration and comfort

• Water canteen or bottle filled with water (at least 1 quart, bring what you feel you can carry or need to drink)
