Porto.DATA #60 Migrating on-prem SQL DW to Azure SQL Database
Detalhes
Next Porto.Data virtual meetup will be dedicated to Migrating existing on-prem SQL DW to Azure SQL Database - Experiences from the field.
Our invited speaker, David BARBARIN is a Data Professional, SQL Server MVP and Microsoft Certified Master (MCM), works as consultant for a Swiss IT service company and he has more than 15 years of experience in Microsoft solutions.
He is specialized in SQL Server and Data Platform technologies including topics such as installation, migration, security audits, troubleshooting performance issues and high available architectures.
Session Summary:
As DBA, your main priorities include ensuring your data are consistent and safely backed up and getting steady performance of your database as well. But moving databases to Azure tells a different story especially if you're dealing with PaaS services like Azure SQL Databases.
Indeed, even if the same concern remain, some of them are under the responsibility of your cloud provider and some other ones are not leading to a paradigm shift of the DBA's role. Furthermore, we often hear a lot about automatic management, scalable and elastic archictures and other magic stuff that are intended to address customer workload requirements. But reality is more complex and the DBA's role is more necessary than ever.
In this session, I will go through a real use case to figure out which benefits Azure SQL Database brought us but also challenges we had to address to get a good level of database and security management, efficient monitoring and alerts as well as a good balance between performance and costs.
