The Boston Chapter Bicycle Committee offers a wide variety of rides to cyclists of all abilities in the greater Boston area and beyond. We have day rides, evening rides, weekend in the mountains or on the Vineyard rides, short rides, long rides, easy rides, advanced rides-something for almost every one.
We also get together socially after the rides or at the annual rally and offer workshops where all can learn to fix a flat, adjust the brakes and ride safely and responsibly.
Our purpose is to bring cyclists together in a friendly social atmosphere in which people can acquire new skills and enhance old ones. Our leaders are all volunteers who have mapped out routes on some of the area's most beautiful byways.
Most of our rides provide a lead and a sweep, as well as a cue sheet and/or map. We do our best to keep you on track as well as to keep you safe! Helmets are required on all our rides. We also group rides into easy, intermediate or advanced, so that you can ride with others at a similar pace.

Historic Salem to Charlestown via Bike Paths & Nice Roads-31.3 miles

Audience: EveryoneDescription: Join us for a wonderful bike tour from historic Salem back to Charlestown via mostly bike paths through the historic and bucolic towns of the near north shore. We will meet at North Station and use the MBTA to take us up to Salem for our 31-mile jaunt back to Charlestown. Highlights will include Salem, Marblehead, the tip of Castle Rock, Swampscott and the marshes of Lynn, Saugus and Evererett via the new-ish Northern Strand Bike Trail. We will have a sumptuous lunch at the K Pub Kitchen and Bar just off the bike trail in Saugus that has a unique fusion Asian-American menu. This ride is easy to moderate, at a relaxed moving pace of 10-12 mph. Bikers will be expected to be ready for paved to packed gravel surfaces. Bikes from road bikes (with good handling skills) to hybrids are fine. Bikers are expected to be able to handle minor repairs such as flat tires and have appropriate clothing/gear to handle early fall conditions and be able to carry extra clothing if the weather indicates it. Helmets required, Hi-Viz clothing and rear red Blinky lights highly recommended. Riders will self pay for the $8.00 MBTA train fare, lunch and any parking required. Ride will run in event of mildly adverse weather. Sustained rain will cancel the ride. The MBTA train leaves North Station at 0930 SHARP and arrives Salem at 1002, fare is $8. Address of N STA is MBTA North Station, 186 Canal St., Boston. Riders who want to meet us at the Salem MBTA when the train arrives at 10:04 are welcome to join the team. You can take the train from North Station back to Salem in the afternoon (trains leave North Station at 2:30pm, 3:30pm, 4:30pm and 5:30pm). Newton-Dover loop (25 miles) with optional donut social
Newton ride start, 1172 Beacon St., Newton, MA, USEnjoy this delightful ride with a friendly group. We span Newton, Wellesley, Needham and Dover.
Pace and difficulty: we will do a pace of 12-15 mph and rolling hills (over 1000 feet); it's an intermediate, not beginner ride. If unclear about your pace for this distance, contact the organizer ahead to verify if it will be a good fit. We'll ride together at the pace listed but likely break into faster and slower groups.
Location: The ride start is behind the red brick condo building at 1172 Beacon St., Newton. There is free parking but park in the back only, not on the side of the building.
Requirements: water and a helmet are required. Be sure to download the route ahead of time: Newton Dover (25 miles) · Ride with GPS. It will be useful to help you understand the route level/difficulty ahead of time and/or if you decide to turn back during the ride. You can set up a free RidewithGPS account. A free account will give the route only (no audio directions).
Timing: arrive by 9 a.m.; we will have a pre-ride talk at 9:05am and leave promptly 9:15 am. There's an optional social gathering at the Dunkin Donuts next door at the end of the ride.
Registration: we encourage--but don't require--registration for the ride on the AMC website (https://activities.outdoors.org/s/oc-activity/a5UUN000001i1xV2AQ/act00016075). By registering, you'll be added to the list for very occasional emails letting you know about upcoming local rides.

Audience: AdultsDescription: Join us next June in celebrating 150 years of AMC with the AMC 150th Relay—a 1,500-mile journey from Virginia to Maine. Join the celebration by participating in a relay segment, attending a local event, or sharing your AMC story. Together, we’ll honor the past and shape the future of outdoor adventure.
For this leg of the relay, we will bicycle the paved Blackstone River Greenway on the border of RI passing by historical railroad landmarks and crossing the Blackstone River multiple times. We then take to the roads of Blackstone Village and maybe test our mountain bike skills along the unfinished portion of the trail to East Blackstone. We will continue on the Southern New England Trunkline Trail (SNETT), passing through the forgotten small village of Wadsworth, and turning around in Franklin back to Uxbridge. This will be an out-and-back trip so prepare for 24 miles of bicycling with some moderate hills. We will be traveling 8-12 mph. Bring snacks and water for occasional breaks. The sun sets at approximately 8:28 pm that night. Optional dinner after the relay adventure. Sorry, no bathrooms along route.
This trip is for you if you like to do an evening bicycle ride with some historical sites and beautiful river views. While the bicycle trail is easy, the middle portion of the rail-trail may not be completed by June 12, 2026 and therefore we will either bypass the unfinished area along busy roads or walk/ride with our bicycles the rockier sections (approximately 2.2 miles).Reminder: Please click the RSVP link above to register!

Audience: AdultsDescription: Celebrate the AMC 150th Anniversary: A Commemorative Cycling Journey Join us for a fun and historic bike ride to celebrate the Appalachian Mountain Club's (AMC) 150th Anniversary ! This memorable 40-mile round trip connects the natural beauty of the Blue Hills Reservation with the heart of the city at Boston Common and is a key leg of the AMC 150 Anniversary Relay. Route Details Starting Point: Adjacent to the Skyline Trail at the Blue Hills Reservation . Parking: Shea Skating Rink (657 Willard Street, Quincy). Ride Out (20 miles): We'll begin our journey by pedaling through the picturesque Blue Hills Reservation and the town of Milton before linking up with the Neponset River Bike Way in Mattapan. The scenic route continues through Dorchester, passing landmarks like Pope John Paul Park, UMASS Boston, and the JFK Library . Our ride then winds through South Boston, the Seaport, and the Financial District, culminating at Boston Common where we will meet with AMC supporters. Return Trip (20 miles): The departure time from Boston Common back to Quincy will be coordinated with the AMC's anniversary activities taking place there. We will follow the same route back to the Blue Hills Reservation. The return route map can be downloaded here. Pace and Rider Expectations The ride will take place on a mix of paved roads and dedicated bike paths . Our pace will be comfortably maintained at 10-12 mph with an expected total elevation gain of 650-750 feet . Anticipated Duration: The entire round trip is expected to take 5-6 hours , starting promptly at 10:00 AM . City Riding: Please note that we will move at a considerably slower pace within Boston due to heavier traffic and urban congestion. Safety: Riders must be comfortable cycling with traffic as a significant portion of the route is on busy roads. Helmets are mandatory , and the use of blinking bike lights is strongly recommended for visibility. Get ready for an enjoyable and celebratory ride that highlights the best of Boston's urban landscape and the natural spaces supported by the AMC!
