A monthly writer's workshop for SF and Fantasy and Speculative authors of poetry held every Third Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

Come to BSFS Film Night! We're presenting films the way they used to back in the day. Ten months of the year (July through April) we'll show a feature film preceded by serial film episodes and indie shorts and followed by animated shorts and discussion.

Every 3rd Saturday of the month at 7:00PM at the BSFS HQ building, we'll be screening SF favorite and cult classic feature films and new Indie Shorts in the SF, Fantasy and Horror genres, as well as web series episodes, and favorites from the Balticon Short Film Festival archives.

Admission is free. Come out and join us!

FYI for those new to BSFS events: The Baltimore Science Fiction Society owns its own building at 3310 East Baltimore Street. When an event is scheduled at BSFS HQ, the building is open to everyone, whether you are a BSFS member or not. Both new people and regulars are encouraged to come to events.

The Speculative Fiction Critique Circle meets every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at BSFS HQ. We sit in a circle and people who have brought pieces for critique take turns reading their work aloud. We quietly mark the paper with any suggestions we have as they're reading. Then afterwards we spend time discussing language, plot, characters, pacing, all that good stuff.

If you're going to present, bring 6 to 8 copies of a piece up to 2,500 words. For those with longer works, serialization is common.

We're a friendly, but very focused group of writers who go in-depth to critique the works we bring in. We never get personal, but we will provide deep, honest feedback. We've had many stories workshopped here published professionally, and our goal is to keep that happening by making stories as strong and sharp as they can be.

Every fourth Saturday at 2PM, the Baltimore Science Fiction Society opens its doors to Otaku and hosts an anime showing on the big screen, along with opening our large manga and board game collections.
