[Remote Meetup] GopherCon 2020 Pre-Conference Meetup

Detalhes

We are extremely excited to announce the GopherCon 2020 Pre-Conference Meetup.

Whether you’re going to GopherCon or not, this is a time for us all to come together and get excited about the Go community in this strange time and support our fellow Gophers.

The Meetup will be held on October Wednesday 28th from 1pm - 4pm EST (GMT/-4), and hosted by Angelica Hill of GolangNYC, and Wilken Rivera of Go-Miami. It will feature a range of wonderful speakers from across the community, and across the world, speaking about their prep for GopherCon 2020, their Pandemic projects, as well as how they’ve tried to adapt to this new normal.

This event is a collaboration between GoBridge, the GDN (Google Developers Network), and GopherCon.

All the chatter during the event will be in the #gophercon2020meetup Slack channel in Gophers slack.

Agenda:

  • 1:00 - 1:20PM (GMT/-5) Introductions
  • 1:20 - 3:00PM (GMT/-5): Featured Talks
  • 3:00 - 3:20PM (GMT/-5): Open discussion with the speakers
  • 3:20 - 3:40PM (GMT/-5): Event Wrap-up

Featured Talks:

Talk 1: Remote Teaching during a Pandemic

A talk going through the process of creating a course for a remote audience. What I learned, what I wish I knew, and what I would do differently.

Speaker: Mofizur Rahman, Developer Adovcate, IBM

Talk 2: Still `Going` during the Pandemic

An update on the projects I've taken on since March 2020 -- working on an abstraction for both the fyne and gio toolkits, and collaborating with academics on DuBois-style data visualizations (originally created with Go-based tools "decksh").

Speaker: Anthony Starks

Talk 3: How to Construct Workshops

Workshops are a little different than conference talks. For one, they're considerably longer. How do you go about putting one together? We'll cover what I've learned over the years in assembling workshops, selecting material, and special considerations for your audiences.

Speaker: Tim Raymond, Senior Software Engineer, Microsoft

Talk 4: My Road to GopherCon 2020

A talk describing the journey starting in January 2020 with the idea “Hey, I should present at GopherCon!”, to the uncertainty of Covid-19, to recording my talk in a makeshift home recording studio in October 2020 for broadcast in mid-November.

Speaker: Doug Donohoe, Senior Software Engineer, The New York Times

Talk 5: pointypoints.com: a Maker Week Project

A talk about implementing a serverless application making use of WebSockets within AWS. What went right, what went wrong, and what I learnt.

Speaker: Jon Sabados, Senior Software Engineer, The New York Times
