About Guqin
The Guqin is one of the oldest musical instruments in China, with a history of more than 3,000 years. In ancient China, both Guqin and calligraphy(Shufa) were essential skills for the upper elites.
They would often gather, listen to Guqin music, practice calligraphy, and enjoy refined conversations together — a classic way of socializing among cultured friends.
Therefore, it’s easy to understand why, during French President Macron’s visit to China in 2023, President Xi hosted him with a live performance of the famous Guqin piece “High Mountain Flowing Water”.
If you’re not very familiar with the Guqin yet, you may come and visit a completely free Guqin exhibition from May 29 to June 29 in a beautiful nearly 100-year-old villa right in downtown Shanghai.
