Dear all,
Our Christmas Edition Meetup is here! 🎄✨
**Tuesday 23rd of December at 7:00 PM at Café Libertas in Arnhem.**
**What to expect:**
We’ll begin with the question cards. This time, we’ll explore what you’re proud of from the past year and what you want to work toward in the new year. I’ll guide the conversations so we can go deeper right away, no small talk unless you want it. Of course, you’re always free to simply mingle and enjoy a drink together.
Café Libertas closes at 10:00 PM on Tuesdays. For anyone who wants to continue the evening, we can head to Café de Kroon for an after-drink.
Café Libertas allows you to bring your own food. I’ll provide snacks, but you’re welcome to bring something too.
**What’s included:**
1. You’ll meet new people, locals and internationals
2. The question cards help us go straight into deeper, meaningful conversations.
3. Two drinks are included.
4. I’ll provide snacks.
5. Everyone comes alone, so you’ll feel at home right away.

Every Tuesday, the group 024 Waalrunners goes for a run at a distance of between 5km - 10km. Everyone is welcome to join, you just need to turn up at 20:00 on Tuesday in front of Cafe De Hemel. There are different routes every time, and the group welcomes all new people to join them.
After the run we usually stay for a drink at De Hemel.

Hi Everyone,
This is our weekly open hackerspace evening! Usually from 19:00 :-)
Feel free to drop by, come and nerd with us!
See this Tuesday!
We're in room 126, ring the room number and we'll open the door. We're located on the first floor
Let us meet, have a coffee and code together, or just discuss :)!
This Meetup is everyone that considers himself "Techie", in the broad sense and wants to socialize :).
Join us and chat, ask your questions, or work on your own projects. The choice is yours! There is no agenda, this is simply a gathering of interested folks :).
We're searching for places that are very accessible from Utrecht Centraal so at the moment we meet at Lebkov, right inside the station. We're typically sitting at the large table. Search for the folks with the laptops in the back!
You are very welcome to join whether you are an experienced developer, or simply interested and want to chat!
Give your still good laptop a second life instead of ditching it because Windows 11 says it is no good... Or you heard Linux is cool.
If you have a backup of your data, that is great, else indicate that you do not, so we can help you.
**For the non-readers among us:**
* **Please include the code of your dinner choice in your Tikkie payment message.**
* **I’ll provide candles, LED candles, candle holders, and fluorescent rods. Please bring as many colorful lights as you can wear — the more light, the better. It keeps us safe in traffic, and no wolf will mistake you for dinner.**
\-\-\-
As the year winds down, join us for a special evening hike filled with light, reflection, and a touch of adventure. Guided by candlelit lanterns, we combine the magic of walking in the dark with a cozy two course dinner at Beekdalhoeve Restaurant.
The **€58 fee** includes a fancy 2 course dinner with multiple menu options, a guided night hike, and all candles, holders, and fluorescent light rods.
We start at Oosterbeek train station at dusk and reach the "Heavenly Mountain" (Hemelse Berg), pausing briefly to reflect on the year. From there we descend to the "Origination Creek" (Oorsprongsbeek) and its mini waterfall, where we light our candles and symbolically let go of the past before walking under the waterfall for a beautiful moment. The trail continues quietly along the Nederrijn, passing the moonlit Doorwerth Castle. After 12 kilometres we arrive at De Beekdalhoeve for a warm and inviting dinner.
Lanterns lit once more, we follow the river plains and the Wageningse Berg to Wageningen bus station, where the hike ends. From there it is easy to travel home (This is not a loop hike).

**When and Where to Meet?**
We'll meet at 17h at Oosterbeek train station! Please come on time as we won’t be waiting for latecomers.

Between Christmas and New Year let’s get out for some fresh air and exercise. In this walk, we stick near the city centre but walk along the various bridges over the Waal and (hopefully if the weather is good) get some great views of Nijmegen and the surrounding countryside. Along the way we encounter a number of artefacts from the city’s rich history.
We’ll start where it all began, in the Valkhof/Hunnerpark, where the first settlements were built by the Batavian tribe around 15AD. We’ll cross the Waalbrug which was an important battleground in WWII and over to the area now known as Lent, which became an important strategic area in the ensuing Cold War.
We’ll come back over the Lentloper bridge for an obligatory look/photo opportunity at the Face of Nijmegen and then walk westwards towards the relatively new Overstreek bridge that takes us back to the south riverside and then back into Nijmegen. We then can (if anyone wants) find somewhere to sit down, relax and get coffee/food/beer.
The walk is almost all on good paths but sturdy footwear is advised, especially if the weather is harsh. Remember to bring some water and maybe snacks. The walk should take about 2.5 – 3 hours.
Meeting point: Statue of Petrus Canisius - details and photo below...

Session Abstract
**Data on Fire: A Hands-On Intro to Spark in Fabric**
Curious about Apache Spark but not sure where to start? This hands-on session introduces you to Spark in Microsoft Fabric Notebooks—a powerful and accessible way to process and analyze big data using familiar tools in the Microsoft ecosystem.
We’ll break down key Spark concepts like distributed computing, DataFrames, and lazy evaluation, then show how they come to life inside Fabric’s notebook experience. You’ll see practical demos that cover loading, transforming, and analyzing large datasets—while leveraging Fabric’s modern data stack, including OneLake, Dataflows, and Pipelines.
You’ll also learn how to choose between Spark and pure Python notebooks in Fabric, based on execution needs, data integration, and use case fit.
Whether you're a SQL pro, BI developer, or data engineer, this session will give you the tools and confidence to start using Spark in your own projects—no cluster management required.
\*Please note, that we will be using Microsoft Teams for the online portion of this meeting. You may want to join a few minutes early to ensure you do not have any issues. If you are attending in person, there are large TVs at the office, and you do not need to bring a laptop or use Teams.
Christians in Tech is a community at the intersection of faith and technology. Our meetups are designed to spark meaningful conversations, promote knowledge sharing, and encourage growth—both in your career and your spiritual walk with God.
