HIKE DESCRIPTION

The "owl's lair" is a complex rock formation that is obviously home to at least one owl. In addition to being a fun place to climb, it's interesting to explore and discover the places where the owl perches and see the evidence of its presence. On a recent trip through the Lair, some people even saw an owl as he flew out of the lair.

The lair is pretty close to a lot of the routes that we normally use. It doesn't take long to get there. It's not too hard to get there, but it's not an easy hike. Once we've gone through the lair, we'll continue to Red Springs Peak and then we'll return down some narrow cracks.

Aside from the lair, there is always the chance that we'll see some other wildlife. I've seen a Ringed Tail Cat in this area as well as Tortoises, Chuckwallas and lots of rabbits and lizards. I've also seen and heard Red Tailed Hawks in this area. Check out my wildlife gallery for some of my favorite pictures of animals I've seen.

• Helmets are always welcome. Be sure to use one that doesn't block your sight.

• Always carry "in case of emergency" numbers with you.

• No guests will be allowed without my prior approval.

YOU MUST BE ON THE "GOING" LIST IN ORDER TO GO ON THIS HIKE. CRASHING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.
