AMS Flies High @ Kite Festival on Remote Fortress Island "Pampus"

Hi guys!

I couldn't believe all awesome things coming together when I saw this event option. We will go to the Kite Festival (Vliegerfestival in Dutch) on the famous and notorious Pampus Island!!!!

Built in 1887, Pampus Island was meant to protect Amsterdam against any imminent attack. During World War I, the island was fully equipped with men and weapons, but during World War 2, the Germans plundered the Island's iron. In 1944, when it was so cold that the water froze, locals walked to the island and stripped it off its wood. Students occupied the Island in the 60s, and after that, it became a Foundation, aiming at showing people the fortress, its history, while organizing very special social events.

Who will come along to see the amazing Kite Festival???? On Saturday 11 June, the island will be filled with demonstrations of special kits, options to create your own kite, kite surfing, and many more water and wind activities. Next to that, we can visit the famous fortress, hear and experience its history, and enjoy the amazing views with a cold drink in our hands.

The cost for the festival is the regular price for entering the Island: the cost for the ferry and entrance together is 17,50 euros. If you have a Museum card, you pay 07 euros!

We will leave from Amsterdam Central station around 10 AM, and travel to the ferry together. The people from other directions can meet us at the ferry; more information will be posted a couple days before the event.
