Timber bridges compose over a quarter of all bridges in North America, yet they compose only 7% of bridge expenditures on existing bridges mostly for maintenance. Meanwhile, new timber bridge construction is under 1% of all expenditures for greenfield bridge construction.

However, the world view on timber is changing with the advent of mass timber and tall timber structures. A carbon lens is redefining how we think about bridge infrastructure.

Please join us and our special guest Dan Tingley of Wood Research and Development (WRD) and Timber Restoration Services (TRS) to learn about and discuss their work on timber highway bridges and the world scene for timber bridge construction. Dan will give a broad overview of the topic, and discuss reasons that timber is not utilized in the construction of highway and railway bridges, carbon advantages of timber, and finally, a discussions on durability and maintenance.
Looking forward to seeing you there, and please share!
