THE STORY OF ADELE H. (1975) Dir: Francois Truffaut

Сведения

"'Adele H' was novelist Victor Hugo's younger daughter, and this highly romantic costume film, based on Adele Hugo's own diary, is the story of her obsessional and mostly unrequited love for a British officer, Lieutenant Pinson (played by Bruce Robinson, later the writer and director of WITHNAIL AND I). The stunningly beautiful young Isabelle Adjani finds here one of the defining roles of her career, portraying Hugo's daughter's tormented descent into madness as she follows Pinson to Nova Scotia (shot in Guernsey), the image of transcendental passion." - BFI

"In writing the script of L'ENFANT SAUVAGE, based on the memoirs of Dr Jean Itard, we discovered, Jean Gruault and myself, the enormous pleasure of writing historical fiction based on real events, without inventing anything and without altering documented facts. If it is difficult to construct an unanimistic intrigue involving a dozen characters whose paths entwine, it is almost as difficult to write an animistic film focusing on a single person. I believe that it was this solitary aspect which attracted me most to this project (THE STORY OF ADELE H.); having produced love stories involving two and three people, I wanted to attempt to create a passionate experience involving a character where the passion was one-way only." - Francois Truffaut

Tickets for this screening seem to be selling quite rapidly, so it might be a good idea to book in advance:
