Hello Gophers,

Happy new year!

We're always looking for new speakers: whether you never gave a talk or spoke in all the conferences, whether you talk about your fun project or something you're doing at work, either way - we'd like to hear from you.
If you'd like to give a talk - submit your proposals here: https://goo.gl/forms/54YvJT223F

We're meeting every 2nd Wednesday of the month, remaining online until end of 2021 and surely longer.

If you'd like to suggest topics for the fishbowl session or if you have more ideas - talk to us at the Gophers slack: https://gophersinvite.herokuapp.com/ in the #berlin channel.

🤓 AGENDA 🤓

19:10-19:25 Networking

19:25-19:30 Welcome words

19:30-20:00 On Ferrets and Gophers: Introducing FerretDB / Alexey Palazhchenko

MongoDB was a life-changing technology for many developers with its smooth UX. Unfortunately, reliability and real-life performance were lacking for a long time, and a license change made it unsuitable for many companies and projects. In my talk, I will introduce FerretDB – an open-source proxy between MongoDB drivers and PostgreSQL. It is built using Go 1.18 to benefit from type parameters (generics) and fuzzing, and I will show how they are useful already.

20:00-20:15 Announcements, HR lost & found (20 sec open mic)

20:15-20:45 Cgo journey: from using to controlling it / José Carlos Chávez

Cgo enables the creation of Go packages that call C code. This is pretty useful when you want to load and use libraries but how easy is it? how safe is it? what are the gotchas? what are the challenges? In this talk we will explore the overall CGO mechanics, uses and more specialized use cases.

20:45-end Networking

🤓 ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS 🤓

Alexey Palazhchenko is the mastermind behind FerretDB (formerly MangoDB), a truly open-source MongoDB alternative written in Go. He also organizes Go meetups in Moscow and GopherCon Russia conference.

José Carlos Chávez (@jcchavezs) is a Software Engineer at Traceable.ai, a Zipkin team member and a Mathematics student at the University of Barcelona. He enjoys working with observability, APIs and distributed systems. While not working with code, you can find him sipping on craft beers.
