Why Is It So Hard to Leave Chiang Mai?
Dinner Discussion at Spice Garden
Thursday, August 27 | 6:00 PM
What is it about Chiang Mai that keeps pulling people back?
Some people come for a few weeks and stay for months. Others leave, only to find themselves missing the city and eventually returning. Is it the peaceful energy, the sense of community, the affordability, the freedom, the people, the food, the nature—or something harder to explain?
Join us for a relaxed and meaningful dinner discussion at Spice Garden as we explore the question:
Why is it so hard to leave Chiang Mai?
This will be an open, friendly conversation where everyone is welcome to share their own experiences and perspectives. Whether you are a longtime Chiang Mai resident, a retiree, a digital nomad, a frequent visitor, or someone still deciding whether Chiang Mai could become home, your story is part of the discussion.
We may talk about what makes Chiang Mai feel different from other places, why friendships and community can become so important here, the freedom people experience in their daily lives, what we miss when we leave, and whether Chiang Mai eventually becomes more than just a destination.
There are no right or wrong answers. The idea is to move beyond small talk, hear different perspectives, and enjoy a thoughtful evening together over dinner.
Important venue note:
This is a dinner discussion, and we want to support Spice Garden for providing us with the space. Therefore, each participant is required to order a minimum of 200 THB per person in food and/or drinks.
Please only RSVP if you genuinely plan to attend, as seating may be limited.
Come hungry, come curious, and bring your Chiang Mai story.
