🌍 World Cultures Series: Thai Mother’s Day Traditional Leaf Craft Workshop

Welcome to our World Cultures series. Bangkok is home to people from many different countries, and we’d love to create a welcoming space where anyone can come share and appreciate the cultures and traditions that make our world so beautifully diverse.

What Is It About?
In Thailand, Mother’s Day is celebrated on August 12 in honor of Queen Sirikit’s birthday. This national public holiday is a day when many wear light blue, the color associated with the Queen Mother.

Queen Sirikit dedicated much of her life to preserving Thailand's traditional craftsmanship and supporting local artisans. In 1976, she established the SUPPORT Foundation, which helped create opportunities for rural communities, especially women artisans, to continue their craft traditions and earn a living through their skill.

Inspired by this, we’ll explore different Thai leaves that have been used in Thai craftsmanship and try our hands at งานใบเตย (ngan bai toey) or pandan leaf crafting, one of Thailand’s beloved crafts passed down through generations. These handmade creations often symbolize respect, care, and devotion, making them a thoughtful gift for a mother or someone who has nurtured and cared for us.

What To Expect
🩵 Optional dress code: wear light blue to join in the Thai Mother’s Day color tradition! Together, we’ll use fresh leaves to explore and create traditional Thai leaf crafts. Afterward, you can choose what feels most meaningful to you:
🎁 Take your handmade creation home to gift to a mother, mentor, caregiver, or someone you’d like to thank.
🎁 Donate your creation to one of the local foundations.
We’ll be hosting two sessions, so feel free to join at the time that works best for you:
Session 1: 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Session 2: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
You’re more than welcome to stay for the entire duration of the event to craft, relax, and connect with others!
