See all- Urban Walk: Courthouse Plaza (SE corner - see details)Courthouse Plaza at Cortez & Goodwin, Prescott, AZ
READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION PLEASE BEFORE YOU RSVP!
REQUIREMENTS:
- Handler and dog participant must have completed Level 1, participates in Level 2, or pre-approved by Sammi. For the safety of the public, if you are unable to control your dog, please keep your dog at home. Additional humans are always welcome.
- A **Contact Information & Release form **must be on file before you register. If you've submitted one already for another event (e.g., class or another walk), you do not need to submit again.
DESCRIPTION: Practicing good social skills in real life! This is just a fun, easy walk where we can put into practice dog management and behaviors learned in class. We’ll kick things off with a mini class so the dogs can get to know each other and settle in. We'll have a nice stroll around the Courthouse Plaza and neighboring streets, as well as go into a dog friendly establishment. Along the way, we will take photos and do some urban agility.
MEETUP LOCATION: Meet at the southeast corner of the Plaza (corner of Cortez and Goodwin across from post office).
ON TIME START: Urban walk starts on time. Please give yourself ample time to find parking and find the group.
URBAN WALK RULES: These rules are in place to ensure everyone has a safe and fun pack walk.
Urban walks may take place on uneven surfaces. It is important that you are able to physically participate and are steady on your feet wearing covered shoes.
We welcome all dogs, all temperaments. Because of this, we can expect dogs working on behavioral or reactivity issues to participate.
- One dog per handler. No exceptions. Managing multiple dogs in an urban walk is a challenge -- dogs get excited to see other/new dogs. An excitable energy in a pack may further excite other dogs. You will need to manage your dog and your full attention to that one dog is required for a safe walk.
- All dogs must be on a secure collar and 6' leash or shorter. Prong collars should be backed up with a carabiner. (If you don't know how to back up a prong collar, I can provide help.) Dogs on a harness must also have a backup collar. (I've seen too many dogs back out of a harness.) Retractable leashes are not allowed as it provides little control.
- Consent by handlers for dog-on-dog interactions. Dog-on-dog interaction is at the discretion of the handlers. Always get permission from the other handler first before allowing dogs to approach each other.
- Maintain a 6' distance between dogs. Ensuring space between dogs allows handlers to safely work on behavioral issues and keeps everyone safe. With that said, if your dog knows another dog/human participant, always get the consent of the other first before approaching. Otherwise, maintain a 6’ distance.
- Bring doggie poo bags. Always clean up after your dog.
- Bring water for you and your dog.
- Share the path. Move to the right to let others pass.
* Expect lots of foot and vehicle traffic and other dogs. If your dog tends to be reactive to any of these distractions, please be EXTRA mindful and prepared.
