For the Meetup lunch on 27th December, we will be sharing traditional hearty communal Eurasian festive dishes amongst friends and family for this year end catch up.
- Devil’s Curry
Devil’s Curry (Kari Debal) is the quintessential festive dish of the Eurasian community. This dish is a deep red, fiery-looking spicy flavorful curry with chunks of assortment of pork and chicken meat and sausages, potatoes and cabbage, and a good splash of vinegar and mustard. Served with hot steamed rice.
- Shepherd’s Pie
Eurasian Shepherd's Pie adapts the classic British meat pie by incorporating local Asian flavors, using beef or chicken instead of lamb, and adding ingredients like soy sauce, shiitake mushrooms and Eurasian spices for a unique, umami-packed taste, reflecting a blend of European comfort food with Asian culinary traditions.
- Pang Susi
Pang Susi is an endangered dish, sadly confined to private Eurasian homes in Singapore and Malaysia (especially Malacca), and heritage cookbooks nowadays. These are velvety sweet potato buns snuggled with lightly spiced minced chicken fillings.
- Sugee Cake
Sugee cake is a much-loved tradition amongst the Eurasian community. This rustic cake is a rich, buttery, and nutty semolina and almond cake with a distinctive coarse or grainy texture. So moist, rich and buttery … cannot wait for second slice.
