Agility, Scaling, and the Rally Experience

Agility sounds straightforward, right? You just start having stand-ups and follow Scrum. Done.

I have heard many close examples, engineering directors, project managers, etc. who say their organization, or even better, their “project” is agile.

My answer to that question is, it is easier said than done.

To start with, it requires a cultural transformation at all levels. Adapting agility has its own challenges, scaling it, adds to those. It is easy to lose the “people over processes” aspect of agile manifesto during the transition.

I will talk from my experience at Rally. Rally is one of the pioneers in Agile software development. We provide coaching and training services as well as the tool. What does agility look like at Rally?

What did we do right, and what mistakes did we learn from?
