We're organizing an OFFLINE speech(generative voice AI) and NLP(LLM) paper reading group and would love your input on the logistics. Here is the link to the poll:
https://lnkd.in/g5m8yp3p
Our tentative plan is:
30-45 minutes of mingling and pizza dinner
45 minutes of paper reading and group discussion
30 minutes of post-event mingling and additional discussions
This will be a focused paper reading event. Sponsor brochures can be placed at the registration desk, but we won't have sponsor presentations or talks during the event.
We might rent a clubhouse in San Mateo for the venue, but if you’d like to support us by offering your office meeting room, we’d greatly appreciate it and can acknowledge your sponsorship during the meetup. Please feel free to reach out to me at [wei@olewave.com](mailto:wei@olewave.com).
If you have a paper and wish to present, please contact me too: [wei@olewave.com](mailto:wei@olewave.com). The paper has to be a peer-reviewed paper in speech, NLP, or CV. If you paper is niche, I might ask you to give a 15-minute tutorial on this topic.

**** To our enterprise/individual patrons and presenters/volunteers: ****
Feel free to contact me if you wish to contribute any of the following:
1. A conference/lecture/meeting room with a projector and stable ethernet/WIFI network, which can hold 20-50 people.
The ideal time for having the meeting is from 6 pm - 8:30 pm Thursday or Friday.
The location can be in SF downtown, or some place near 101 highway but no further than San Jose downtown.
2. You'd like to share you lastest promising work in NLP and Speech. It has to be some work that has been accepted by a peer-reviewed internation conference, or at least to be a high-quality ArXiv work. You don't have to be in Bay Area, we can do online Zoom.
3. Suppose we had a generous patron provided us the venue, you wish to volunteer some meeting setup work, e.g. ordering pizza, clean up the conference room afterward with me, and etc.
********* Welcome to BayArea SNLP !!! **********

=====
This meetup group is currently focusing on sharing and discussing the research of latest speech recognition, TTS(text-to-speech) and NLP (natural language processing) research and technology advance, by organizing authors of the latest arXiv papers to present their work through Zoom meetings.
Editors will select high quality latest arXiv papers in speech and language technologies especially in ASR, TTS, and NLP. Then the author(s) of the selected papers will be asked if they are interested in presenting their work, or if it is okay for others to present their work if they cannot come. The author(s) or the delegate will deliver a presentation of 15-30 mins, and hold a 5 mins Q&A session in a Zoom meeting.
There will be :
a bi-weekly Zoom meeting Friday 4-5 pm UTC (9-10 am PDT, 12-1pm EDT, 12-1 am CST, 1-2 am JST);
and another bi-weekly Zoom meeting Friday 2-3 am UTC (Thursday 7-8 pm PDT, 10-11pm EDT; Friday 10-11 am CST, 11am-12pm JST);
3 papers will be presented. The presentation language is English.
For authors:
It is fine if the authors do not have time to prepare slides, and present by sharing the paper PDF with notes and highlighted sections.
For audience:
Editors will send out the paper list at least 3 days before the meeting through a meeting invitation. Since this is a virtual conference, please keep your mic muted, and hold your questions till the Q&A session.

It is highly recommended to read the papers before the meeting starts.
I will review the paper in one short and one long session. The short review session is about 3 mins, the long review session is about 20-30 mins.
To help you to understand the paper better, feel free to ask questiones about the paper after the review. (I prefer not to be disrupted during the sharing, since it is being recorded and I want it to be concise).
In case you missed our paper reading, you can always check the past recordings in Olewave's Youtube Channel
* Sorry I do not have time for general machine learning or NLP questiones.
