Drawing New York is a great way to make new friends while drawing together. We are a community of over 13,000 members who love to improve our drawings and paintings!
DNY helps people make "real and tangible progress" with their drawings, whether they are absolute beginners, intermediate sketchers, or professional artists.
We meet several times a week, in person and online to draw from a live model. We have both instructed and uninstructed classes.
Drawing New York hosts full-day workshops with exceptional drawing and painting teachers, presenting artist demonstrations and drawing competitions.
DNY also creates original content for museums and cultural institutions in New York City including The Morgan Library, The Museum of The City of New York, and The Museum of Arts and Design.
We hope this group provides a place to practice drawing and learn about exciting drawing sessions and exhibitions throughout New York.

Course Description:
One of the most common difficulties for beginning and intermediate painters is finishing a painting. Starting a painting is simple enough, but understanding how to organize that start into a coherent, finished illusion of reality is the most challenging aspect of naturalistic painting. This class will teach you a step-by-step procedure to methodically navigate through a full-figure painting. We start with a precise line drawing, then transfer it to a toned canvas, and finish part by part, moving top to bottom in a process referred to as “window shading” by the 19th-century masters. Familiarity with life drawing is recommended as a prerequisite for this class, although you don’t need to have painted before.Class Schedule: May 13, 20, and 27th and June 3rd from 6:30 – 9:15 pm
