Join us at the library for a beautiful performance of Fado, the soulful and haunting music of Portugal!
Internationally acclaimed singer and composer Ramana Vieira, accompanied by Jeff Furtado on guitarra, David Parker on bass and Vincent Tolliver on violin and mandolin, will share a performance of this passionate, beautiful music.
About Ramana Vieira:
Ramana Vieira has been described by The New York Times as "a rising star in World Music," and by The Boston Globe as an artist who "breathes new life into Fado." With deep roots in Portuguese culture and a creative spirit that blends traditional Fado with contemporary influences, Ramana's performances transport audiences on an emotional journey through love, longing, and nostalgia—what the Portuguese call "saudade."

Belle Haven Library, 100 Terminal Ave., Menlo Park, CA, 94025 - California Book Group: I'm Glad My Mom DiedMenlo Park Library, Menlo Park, CA
We have a brand-new, in-person book discussion group!
The California Book Group meets quarterly, in person, at Menlo Park Library. We discuss books set in California, or by authors who live in or are from California.
Our September read is I'm Glad My Mom Died, by Jennette McCurdy.
The heartbreaking and hilarious memoir shares McCurdy’s struggles as a former child actor (Nickelodeon’s by iCarly and Sam & Cat )—including eating disorders, addiction, and a complicated relationship with her overbearing mother—and how she retook control of her life.
Dave Itzkoff of The New York Times called McCurdy’s memoir "a coming-of-age story that is alternately harrowing and mordantly funny." The book’s publisher calls it “an inspiring story of resilience, independence, and the joy of shampooing your own hair.”
Upcoming Titles:
Here are our upcoming reads for this new, quarterly group. Please check them out and join us!- Dec. 7: I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou
- March 1: Knockout Queen, by Rufi Thorpe
