Aeneid, by Virgil
The Aeneid is a Latin epic poem that tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who fled the fall of Troy and travelled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans. Written by the Roman poet Virgil between 29 and 19 BC, the Aeneid comprises 9,896 lines in dactylic hexameter. The first six of its twelve books tell the story of Aeneas' wanderings from Troy to Italy, and the latter six tell of the Trojans' ultimately victorious war upon the Latins, under whose name Aeneas and his Trojan followers are destined to be subsumed.
The hero Aeneas was already known to Graeco-Roman legend and myth, having been a character in the Iliad. Virgil took the disconnected tales of Aeneas' wanderings, his vague association with the foundation of Rome, and his description as a personage of no fixed characteristics other than a scrupulous pietas, and fashioned the Aeneid into a compelling founding myth or national epic that tied Rome to the legends of Troy, explained the Punic Wars, glorified traditional Roman virtues, and legitimized the Julio-Claudian dynasty as descendants of the founders, heroes, and gods of Rome and Troy.
The Aeneid is widely regarded as Virgil's masterpiece and one of the greatest works of Latin literature

Offline Reading Party x Slow Art Experience
\*\*Les billets sont gérés via LuMa. Merci de [prendre ta place ici.](https://luma.com/avyfq29z)\*\*
**📚 Join The Offline Club at Le Kawaa du Lucernaire for a very special edition of our cosy Offline Reading Party.**
Lock your phone away and immerse yourself in a morning designed to recharge you — with a twist.
This time, we're celebrating **Slow Art Day** by turning our books into works of art.
Because here's the thing: your book *is* art. The cover, the typography, the texture of the pages, the way a sentence is constructed. We just rarely slow down enough to notice.
This reading party is your chance to disconnect from screens, unwind from the daily buzz, and meet like-minded people — while rediscovering your book through a completely different lens.
A little escape into a different world — where time slows down, people are open to connect, and you can truly focus on yourself.
The perfect start to your weekend. ✨
***
**What to expect:**
📖 Peaceful (me-)time to read that book you've been meaning to start (or finish!)
🎨 A Slow Art session that might just change the way you read... forever
🤝 The chance to meet and connect with like-minded (wannabe) booklovers
💬 A space where connection comes easily — no rush, no pressure, no notifications
🫖 Community vibes, a welcoming atmosphere, and plenty of time to relax
📵 Valuable time offline that leaves you feeling rested and fulfilled
🇫🇷 🇬🇧 French & English friendly — all our events are bilingual, so you can comfortably speak either language
***
**The Program:**
**10:00 – 10:30 \| Arrive & Make Yourself at Home**
**10:30 – 11:00 \| Slow Art Session**
We'll begin by looking at our books the way you'd look at a painting in a museum: slowly, curiously, without rushing to "get through it."
Led by an Art Therapist specialised in Museum Art Therapy and Book Therapy (yes, that's me, Stefania, your city leader 🙋♀️), this session will invite you to truly *see* your book before you read it.
We'll also explore the idea of Slow Reading, because... did you know that's a thing too?
**11:00 – 12:00 \| Dive Into Your Book** Your time to sit back and enjoy undistracted reading time — perhaps with fresh eyes after the session.
**12:00 – 13:00 \| Connect With Others**
Chat and connect with others, but only if you feel like it.
Meet new people, share stories about your favourite reads, and enjoy meaningful conversations.
We create laid-back spaces where talking to strangers is the norm and connection is made easy.
***
**What to Bring**
Your current read, a book with a cover that makes your heart sing, or both.
Comics, poetry, graphic novels — all literature is welcome here. Come as you are, bring what moves you.
***
**About your phone:** *Your phone will rest in our “phone hotel,” and we’ll be its bodyguards. But just so you know, if it magically disappears, learns to fly, or mysteriously breaks, The Offline Club can’t be held responsible.*
*Not quite ready to let it go? No worries — just switch it off and keep it tucked away, out of sight.*
***
We love and appreciate the venues that host our events! Please remember that your consumption gives the venues one more reason to love us back!
***
**We can’t wait to swap screen time for real time with you.**
Offline hugs,
Stefania, The Offline Club Paris
Deep Talk / In English
🍩🍰 Let's have a weekly deep talk in an intimate Parisian café, share a drink and have a good time with like-minded, lovely and chill people. 🥂☕
We're here to sip life in a childish, simple and non-serious way. 🙃
When was the last time you had a meaningful conversation? Or deepened your relationship with someone in your life? It's not easy to have a deep conversation.
While small talk, which is typically casual and light-hearted, can help break the ice, it may not necessarily help you form a deep, emotional connection with someone. Whether it's with your friends, family, colleagues or romantic partners, having meaningful conversations is important for creating strong bonds.
"Meaningful conversations help us understand ourselves and those around us better. They involve sharing important aspects of ourselves and actively listening, validating and connecting with others."
We believe that a happy and healthy life is built on beautiful relationships and that loneliness kills us. That's it. It's not the number of friends that counts, it's the quality of the relationship.
✅ This group is adressed to :
● People who want to build deep, genuine and caring relationships in a small group that looks the same, where they feel comfortable and emotionally safe to talk emotionally and get intimate about anything in their lives.
● Simple, loving, kind, hyper/sensitive and lovely people who spend a lot of time in their bubble thinking about the meaning of life, passionate about personal development, philosophy, meaningful conversations, debates ....
⛔ Please don't subscribe if :
● You don't see yourself in the group's aims and beliefs.
● You're travelling for a short period of time and don't live or intend to live in Paris.
● You are not sure if you will be able to come, please update your status to allow others on the waiting list to join. An absence without notice will result in an irrevocable ban.
Progress :
● ❗ For reservations, I'll send you a private Meetup message at least 5 hours before the meeting to confirm your reservation. If I don't receive a reply 2 hours before the meeting, I will send you a second message to let you know that you will be replaced by someone on the waitlist.
● 💚 We keep the session small, cosy and relaxed in a quiet place, prioritising regularity to encourage intimacy, connection, listening and speaking. (\~ 5/6 people)
● 🔖 On arrival, if you feel comfortable, you will be suggested to choose and associate several drawn Feelings and Needs cards to express how you really feel at the moment, to talk about ourselves and communicate effectively.
● 📝 The best way to make progress is to make the conversation easy and natural, with everyone making an effort to suggest and write down what you want to talk about. You can write down your favourite topics/questions before the meeting. The meeting is participative and invite everyone if you feel comfortable being a leader and a power of suggestion.
Anyway, to keep the meeting running smoothly, I'll animate the meeting to make sure the conversation doesn't get wild or boring and I wouldn't hesitate to reframe people. In case of lack of inspiration we have a lot of deep conversation question card game which can help to find interesting questions.
● 🍕 (Not compulsory) After the meeting we can finish in a nearby restaurant for those who wish to relax or continue our conversation.
Advice for a good moment :
● Leave your ego and mask at home, we are not here to impress anyone but to be ourselves with our strength, weakness, pride and shame.
Come with an open/deep/emotional/complex thought and vulnerability.
● Ask open-ended questions and invite the other person to describe what a situation was like for them or how they felt.
● Don't hesitate to be vulnerable and share information about yourself if needed.
Consider sharing personal information first to gain the other person's trust.
● Adopt an attitude of curiosity and genuine interest in what the other person is saying. Be thoughtful and try to put yourself in the other person's shoes so that you can see things from their perspective. Be truthful, caring and honest.
● Listen actively and ask follow-up questions.
● Be empathetic and offer emotional validation so that they feel seen and heard.
It is forbidden to judge, but try to understand.
● ⏱ Be aware of your speaking time for Equally Speak.
● 🤫 Be aware never to provoke political or religious ideologies, but to accept differences of belief. Advice on non-violent communication can be given in the meeting to learn not to unintentionally hurt anyone when requested or needed.
● 🚨 Remember to maintain a safe, and benevolent environment. People who are considered to be disruptive, problematic or simply not in tune with the energy of the group will not be allowed to return.
Finally, we're hug-friendly !!! 🤗
Indonesian restaurant - La Maison de l'Indonésie
Aujourd'hui Eka Moncarre nous convie dans son restaurant pour un voyage culinaire en Indonésie.
Today, Eka Moncarre invites us to her restaurant for a culinary journey to Indonesia.
Indonesian cuisine is based on seafood, highland produce, and tropical lowland ingredients. While some fruits are only available at certain times of the year, Indonesian cuisine is not strictly seasonal. It draws upon a wealth of local products, enriched by the successive influences of Indian, Chinese, Arab, and European migrations.
La Maison de l'Indonésie est un espace chaleureux entre boutique, salon de dégustation et lieu de rencontres, au cœur de Paris.

The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
