The Dissident Salon is a weekly poetry and performance series created as an extension of the DISSIDENT Club’s mission to provide a home for dissenting voices, hosted by Alissa Leeds. Rooted in the tradition of the literary salon, it treats writing and performance as public acts that question power and challenge the systems that shape our lives. Each week features a curated performer, followed by open mic sessions open to all. Work may be presented in English, French, or other languages. Multilingual expression is central to the space and reflects the realities of exile, displacement, and exchange that define the DISSIDENT Club. The Salon is an ongoing forum for people who speak publicly and think critically through art. Le yoga vinyasa est issu du yoga Ashtanga, qui lui consiste à exécuter une série de postures dans un ordre bien précis. À la différence de l'Ashtanga, le yoga Vinyasa est plus libre et créatif : il n'impose aucune série de mesures. Join Indian-American author, polyglot, and traveller Kiran Bhat as he comes to Paris to launch his multilingual and multinational writing. Kiran has been to over 177 countries and writes in six of the twelve languages he practices. Bienvenue à la projection du film-essai EX-VOTO (2026, 80mn) de Hu Jiamin à l’occasion du finissage de son exposition « Ex-voto politiques » au Dissident Club jeudi 9 avril de 19h à 21h ! Le film est une élégie visuelle et sonore qui entrelace les peintures ex-voto de Hu Jiamin et les événements sociaux et personnels (pandémie, manifestations, résistance, exil, son arrestation en Chine en 2017, son voyage en Russie en 2025 etc.) avec lesquels ses peintures sont associées, de manière complexe, nuancée, poétique et humoristique. L’artiste sera présent pour discuter avec vous après la projection. Welcome to the screening of Hu Jiamin's essay film EX-VOTO (2026, 80 min) at The Dissident Club on Thursday, April 9th, from 7 pm to 9 pm on the occasion of the closing of his exhibition "Political Ex-votos." The film is a visual and sound elegy that intertwines Hu Jiamin's ex-voto paintings with the social and personal events (pandemic, protests, resistance, exile, his arrest in China in 2017, his journey to Russia in 2025, etc.) with which his paintings are associated, in a complex, nuanced, poetic, and humorous way. The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change.
