Event Driven Architecture for Open Source Software MetricsHow can you measure the impact of a contributor or group of contributors on the open source community? This is one of the many difficult questions community solution engineers (or CSEs) are faced with in quantifying the impact of their work on the communities they serve. In this talk Hugh will outline how he has tried to answer this question by collecting open data from github with python, aggregating it, and visualising it with Grafana to build a tool for better understanding the OSS ecosystem.

Beyond ETL: How Dremio and Open Source Tools Are Transforming Data Science WorkflowsThe data lakehouse is emerging as a pivotal architecture to bridge traditional data management and modern AI-driven analytics. But what role can it play in data science?
In this talk I will discuss how the “no copy” data architecture of Dremio, utilising open-source technologies such as Apache Iceberg, Apache Arrow Flight and tools like dbt, can accelerate your data science initiatives.
Bio 1: Hugh Evans
Hugh is an experienced developer advocate and community manager with a particular interest in data and AI. He has been working in IT for over 5 years, working primarily on large scale data engineering projects and cloud infrastructure.
Out of office hours Hugh organises AI and Deep Learning for Enterprise (aidle.uk) , a Meetup group which hosts talks on real world applications of AI.
Hugh is a former apprentice and an advocate for vocational learning as a pathway into an IT career.
Bio 2: William Martin
Will Martin is a Technical Evangelist at Dremio with experience as a data engineer, technology consultant, and software developer. His career includes roles at CERN, BMT, Deloitte, and Tamr. He has spent over a decade collaborating with companies and organisations across EMEA and APAC, working to understand their unique problems and to deliver targeted, technical solutions. Starting with a background of statistical analysis in particle physics, his professional journey has spanned multiple industries, including banking, shipping logistics, entertainment media, healthcare, defence, and customer 360.
