Heading South Might be the Hottest Ticket No Matter How You Look at It

The state of Texas is investing heavily in start-up companies and funding them through entities such as the Texas Emerging Technology Fund along with other supports throughout the state including entrepreneur accelerators and education programs.  With Texas being neighbors with Mexico immigrants are playing an important role in the success Texas is sure to experience in the tech world.
In the past, manufacturing of textiles has been the ticket to success in business relations between Texas and Mexico. Auto parts shared in that success. Now, we see 20 manufacturing facilities in Mexico ranging from aerospace to medical devices to electronics. It is clear that China is not always the best manufacturing solution which is especially excellent for Texas because the state already has the business history in place and the close proximity cannot get any better. China has been increasing shipping and labor costs while they have not made any improvements in overall shipping guarantees. Not much distance to cover when you are shipping from Mexico to Texas. This is huge for Texas small businesses and entrepreneurs in industries ranging from what we have seen in the past such as textiles and auto parts to up and coming techie start-ups and even the more sophisticated manufacturers.
This is where the temperatures collide. The heat in Texas has been above 100 degrees in recent months.  The tech scene is migrating across Texas and reaching out to the Mexican border for some really hot business opportunities. Now, places like Brownsville will be beefing up their average IQ statistics when SpaceX hires and develops 600 rocket scientists when they expand their already contracted operations there.  Ok, so, that is kinda “hot” if you ask me.
What an exciting future Texas has to offer young entrepreneurs who are just out of college or someone who has dreams of starting over and doing what they love. Texas quite possibly has it all within driving distance.  And, ladies, who wouldn’t want a town full of Rocket Scientists living nearby. I am sure they will need firemen to keep them safe in emergencies and if none of that works out, just on the other side of the border in a place called Ciudad Juárez, Johnson & Johnson employs about 8,000 people making pacemakers and heart stints, at my age and as an empty nester, that may be closer to my style anyway. When it comes down to it, “Hot” is in the eye of the beholder.

The TechMap has Partnered Yet Another Impactful Group - Texas State Small Business Development Center

The Texas State Small Business Development Center is made up of 8 experienced business advisors who mentor existing and start-up businesses in strategic planning, market research, international trade, financial planning, and product development. These services come at no extra expense to the students at Texas State, but are already funded through taxes.  The program is completely funded by the SBA and the State of Texas.

Representatives from the Texas State Tech Team Advisors will be at the next meet up on Monday, August 11th for more information!

We are excited to partner with an organization with such an impactful outreach to young entrepreneurs and small business owners!

Can't Get Enough Education - Is Coding Calling Your Name?

A MESSAGE FROM JOHAN BORGE, FOUNDER/CEO TECHMAP-

Hello members!

I wanted to get in touch to introduce a new opportunity for those looking to develop their technical skills or work with technical teams. Austin Coding Academy is offering part-time classes in Python,

HTML, CSS, JavaScript and the development process. They focus on intro level classes and specialize in helping managers and entrepreneurs expand their technical skill set.

I'm happy to announce that TechMap has partnered with Austin Coding Academy and, within that, will be offering a promotion for those interested in taking classes with them. For any of our members who apply and are accepted to ACA's fall session, TechMap will sponsor $150 of that student's tuition.  If you would like to take advantage of this, enter "Techmap14" in the reference code section of the application.

Often times one of the hardest parts of starting a business is finding and communicating with your technical team. We think this would be a great opportunity for anyone that works with developers or simply wants to get a foundation in coding.

For more information, check out their website (www.austincodingacademy.com) or give them a call at [masked].
