Re: [East-Bay-L-E-A-P-S] Best, least $$$ way to test my husband?

Awesome! this is where I have been stuck for a few months now. For some reason it was thought that a or my chiropractor .....oh now it comes back to me....In order for medicare to cover test costs I heard I needed a M.D. to request tests. Is that what others know to be accurate?

As a chiropractor I can sign off on the IgeneX testing forms for anyone wanting a less expensive way to get the testing done.  However, they would need to become a patient in my office in order to legally order labwork.  I am not however an 'LLMD' so interpretation of the tests would not be my specialty.  If interested my office number in South Berkeley is[masked]

Wow!  It is so good to know that.  I know a few people who might have Lyme but are not in a financial situation that allows them to go to an LLMD.  It might make sense for them to do this using a doctor that is covered by their insurance if they can find one.  Then if they are postive they could reconsider the LLMD option.

Anna Lisa ,

You can call Igenex yourself and they will send you the test to your house .  Then you will need to find a doctor who will sign it and you can send it yourself if you prefer.

I did this with  my daughter when I wasn't quite sure we were dealing with Lyme. Her pediatrician signed it .  I must add doctor was hesitant because she was not familiar with Lyme and didn't understand the test.  I explained It to her and reasoned what's the harm ,  hopefully it's negative ( it wasn't ) .
You do not need an LLMD to order or sign .

Good luck ,
Kim

Anna Liisa,
I do not believe that it has to be an actual LLMD that has to order it. I believe after talking to others and to Igenex, that it can be other types of practitioners, such as an ND, NP, or possibly other type of alternate doctor. This may save you money if you can then just ask one of the practitioners that you are already going to see on an upcoming visit if they will order it for your husband. I had an ND order for hubsy out of "family courtesy" (as we were all bit), who stated that he would do it if hubsy "came in and shook his hand", as he stated that he "had to actually see the patient in person in order to order the test", and that this would suffice.

And/or if the practitioner DOES still need to consult with your husband in order to order the test for him, it will then still hopefully be a lot cheaper than seeing an actual LLMD.

Upon your request, many practitioners will then FAX/email you the results once they have received the results sent to them from Igenex, (without you having to have a follow up visit), since it IS your right to have your own medical records.
But some will claim that you have to come in for a visit for the test results, or they wont give it to you (which is BS).

Many want you to come in for the reading of the results, as the interpretation can many times be tricky.

You can also call Igenex to clarify this info for you (about what kind of pratitioner can order the tests).

Karen

Thanks Stephanie, I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Having gone through the gamut myself, we're pretty familiar with it
all.  And we're really just looking for the least expensive, easiest way
for him to get tested for Lyme at this point in time. Given that BVT
seems to work for most coinfections also, once we know he has Lyme (&
Cos) we know the road we would choose.
