Subject: The biggest little victory you haven't heard about.

If the Republican takeover of the US Senate has you down, here's one inspiring local win you've got to read about -- and it proves that people power can still beat the most powerful corporations in America.

Richmond, California is a racially diverse working-class city in the Bay Area -- and it's also home to a major oil refinery owned by Chevron, one of the world's largest oil corporations.

In 2012, the Chevron refinery caught fire and sent 15,000 people to the hospital with respiratory problems and other illnesses. After the company refused to pay for damages, Richmond's progressive Mayor and City Council took the mega-corporation to court.

Chevron didn't want to deal with the trouble of paying to clean up their mess. So they decided to try to buy themselves a more Chevron-friendly city government. When the Mayor's office and four City Council seats came up for election this year, Chevron poured an eye-popping $3 million into the race in support of their hand-picked stooges.
