What we're about

Hi welcome to Social Activities. We do all sorts of activities that include kayaking, camping, hiking, nature walks, photography, biking, scuba diving, snorkeling, cooking events, BBQ's, poker nights, and just about anything to do with socializing.

So, if you are new in town or just want to meet fun and adventurous people this group is for you.

Please complete your introduction. If you are ONLY interested in DATING or ?, please join a different group.

This meetup group has a "no-flake policy": if you RSVP and don't show up, you will be banned from the group at the discretion of the organizers: no questions asked. Our organizers spend time out of their busy schedules to plan great events for our members. For those who just flake outright, it's pitiful, disrespectful, unprofessional, and utterly lame.

With that being said, come join us. You won't regret it.

Grab your beach chairs, nice potluck food & utensils for it, some sodas, have warm jacket in your car, flashlight/lantern and some dry firewood very much appreciated! No pallets unless you cut them up first.

Main courses or big entrees are best for this big potluck group, bring something that YOU would like to eat, so then you know it will be there. Pre-cooked food, unless you also bring a BBQ and fuel to cook your food.

If you need ideas, plan something YOU like or stop by Costco and pickup a party tray or their spiral turkey sandwiches, chicken tenders, etc. Or bring large fresh pizzas! Or cases of sodas or water! Please bring some dry firewood if you possibly can! Not pallets, unless they are cut up.

Potluck starts about 5pm but come early or whenever you can, maybe play some games or walk a few miles along beautiful Mission Bay while there.

Anyone have musical instruments to play? Sometimes people bring guitars for some singalong by the bonfire. We had some Karaoke last month. Anyone have bluetooth speakers and Karaoke apps?

I will go very early and most likely get the furthest West double picnic tables and closest fire ring. ( The Sun sets in the West, for non-scouts ) Walk the sidewalk to the North-West end and then look for us at the double picnic tables and fire ring nearby.

Coming North on H-5 take Clairemont Dr offramp and turn West, crossing 5 and then turn right onto E Mission Bay Dr. Go to De Anza Rd.

Coming South on H-5 you may take Balboa/MBayDr offramp( or if very heavy traffic at Balboa ramp just continue South on 5 to Clairemont Dr ), proceed straight on Mission Bay Dr thru six stoplights before taking sharp right turn from right lane just before entering 5 South again, West into N Mission Bay Dr, turn right at stopsign and go North to De Anza Rd.

IF you miss that sharp right turn and end up on H-5 South, you can still take the next offramp Clairemont Dr and get on E Mission Bay Dr going North along there to De Anza Rd.

Look for our red STAR mylar balloon hung on our orange umbrella top, or find us later by the West-most fire ring on the sand. After dark 3 lanterns on our table. Please bring some dry firewood, thank you!

Intro to IMPROV Workshop (FREE) near Mission Hills - Outdoors

What is Improvisation?

The craft of IMPROV is being spontaneous & creating without preparation. It is the Art of, well....making stuff up.

During the workshop, we'll be doing warm-up exercises and playing some creative performance games (similar to those seen on 'Whose Line?').

NOT necessary: prior improv experience, any preparation, natural performer's instincts, a keen sense of humor or wit.

SOMEWHAT necessary: willingness to try, courage to adventure, ability to listen

QUITE necessary: Play, Relax, & Have Fun!

By discovering some of the fundamentals of improvisational comedy, you can learn techniques to think more quickly on your feet, become more creative, improve your storytelling skills, be more spontaneous, improve your teamwork and communication skills, and end up with better ABs (seriously, laughing is a workout).

Whether you've tried it before, or have no idea what I've been describing, come out and have some fun and laughs with us. You can play some, you can watch some, you will laugh a lot.

Come as a group, bring a friend, or just show up. We'll take care of the rest.

IMPORTANT - Space is limited to 12 participants, so please RSVP only if you plan to attend. If something comes up, please change your RSVP to allow others to join. Thanks!

PAYMENT - This class normally costs $40, but is FREE for our group! You are encouraged (but not required) to contribute a small amount at the end of the workshop to our host (Jackie). If you have fun, $5 is appreciated. If you have a super fantastic time, $10 is appreciated. These contributions help offset the cost of running the event.

LOCATION - We will be meeting outdoors in Pioneer Park, so we can be outside and distance appropriately while still having fun.

*The weather is supposed to be nice...but it will be midday. We will do our best to find as much shade opportunity as possible, but we do encourage you to bring along a hat (or something to provide shade to your face), sunscreen, a drink to stay hydrated, & lawn/camping chair (or blanket) if you want to sit for a few minutes between games/exercises.

PARKING - Street parking in the surrounding area.

C19 - We will be outside and spread out. You can definitely have a mask with you. If you choose to participate in any games that involve any kind of remotely close proximity, we ask that proper health safety protocols be observed. That said, we will try to remain spread out so we can enjoy each others company and smiles w/o creating any stress for those concerned.
