Working with Unitarian Universalist Congregations

Are you now or have you ever been a member of the local Unitarian Universalist congregations? If so your help is needed for this project.

Meetup is great for setting up get togethers of like minded people. But organizing events for Humanists in Ventura County needs support of folks willing to pitch in provide resources. In other parts of the world humanists have teamed up with UU's for those resources. Some UU's are AHA chapters and some are Sunday Assembly locations. The Santa Monica UU has a subgroup called "AAHS" (Atheists, Agnostics, Humanists, Seculars/Skeptics)

So I have been in contact with the two UU's in our county to see where we can cooperate in mutual goals where we overlap. They can provide organizational support, programs and facilities for speakers, while we contribute the can-do attitude, real world and pragmatic perspective of values in action that we have become known for.

We also hope to promote the humanistic values within those UU's that may be under represented in their current congregations at this time.

So if you are now or have been a member of the UU's, please contact me and provide your insight. I believe that our cooperation with the folks at UU's can benefit our groups, but more importantly--our community of Ventura County.

For those concerned that this implies that we will become more "spiritual" and begin to embrace belief in values less natural or theoretical, or be absorbed by them, please rest assured that our vision and values remain true to practical solutions to human problems. We will continue to embrace our distinct perspective towards reason, compassion, and community.

Thanks

Paul Schmeer

"Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.

The lifestance of Humanism—guided by reason, inspired by compassion, and informed by experience—encourages us to live life well and fully...."
