What we're about

Welcome to the official Ventura Sierra Club meetup group! We are everyone in Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Ojai, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Somis, El Rio, Port Hueneme, and all the little places inbetween. Want to hike locally? This is the place to be! Ease into fitness at beginner walks, get going on intermediate half or whole day hikes, or make new friendships on overnight backpacks. Want to volunteer for the environment? Check out our service activities! We do beach/river clean ups, trail repair, native plant restorations and more. Your personal fulfillment awaits! "Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life." ~John Muir 1901

It’s on your right soon after turning onto HWY 150 from HWY 33.

Carpinteria Bluff/Beach Walk

Bates (North Rincon) Beach

This is an easy 6 mile walk with a short rock climb up and a short sandy descent. The seal rookery will be closed this time of year, so it matters not about the tide this time. Low tide is at 10:50 so we will still have lots of beach to explore. Meet in the Bates Beach parking lot near the restrooms for a 09:00 start. Plenty of bathrooms are along the way. Dogs are not allowed on the State Beach. Check the weather and dress accordingly. As always, bring water, hat and sunscreen.

Sespe Cienega Native Plant Garden Restoration

Fillmore Fish Hatchery

This volunteer restoration event will be held at the entrance of the Fillmore Fish Hatchery, also known as the Sespe Cienega. The event will be held from 9:00am-11:00am. Stay after to learn about the native plants in the garden. We will be doing any of the following tasks: weed removal, plant installation, fence installation, and mulching. Some are light tasks, others heavy duty. All can be dirty, dusty, hot or muddy! LONG PANTS AND CLOSED SHOES please! For further questions about the activities, email us at contact[at]santaclarariver[dot]org All ages welcome, 14 and under must be accompanied by adult.
