I saw that one from a member from another group.  When I clicked on her profile it said "member has been removed.

Subject: [In-Good-Company-Singles-and-Friends] Spam Messages...

Hi Everyone,

Every once in a while I just want to remind everyone that the spammers will come out in force when they feel they can benefit from our members. The recent one is someone named Elizabeth Jansen who is sending around a site for rich people. When I went to check out "her" profile it had already been removed from Meetup altogether. This is what I saw when I followed up.

Sorry, this account no longer exists.

This means that "she" most likely spammed many other sites and had been reported and Meetup removed her before I even signed on today. I received an email with several new changes in Meetup's policies and one of them is that Meetup intends to crack down on the spamming even harder. This is a good thing but there really is no way to stop these people from joining Meetup setting up a bogus profile and spamming everyone before they are removed. They will then just do it again tomorrow under a whole new name.

Again I am reminding you to not respond to these spam messages. You can forward them on to me or you can hit the report link at the bottom of the email and it will go straight to Meetup for follow up. There is no reason to get upset either these are just opportunists looking for the one person who will respond to them and check out their site. Think about it if they send out one hundred spam messages and get 20 people to check out their site they most likely have benefited already before Meetup even removes them.

I want everyone to feel comfortable in this group and I respond to these emails as soon as I get them so please have patience and know that I am in contact with Meetup every time this occurs. I also emailed with another Meetup organizer today who said she also had this "Elizabeth" send emails in her group as well.

Thank you for alerting me as I don't always get the emails and keep doing so, so that I can follow up immediately.

Thank you.

Deanna
