The Broward Lotus Sangha and Tu Vin Hng Hi

Are pleased to invite you to a

ROSE CEREMONY (I L VU LAN)

In Celebration Buddhas Mothers Day (Ullambana)

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

From 5:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.

At 2321 SW 127 Ave., Davie, FL 33325

Join us for a delightful evening to celebrate i L Vu Lan -A Buddhist Celebration honoring Shakyamuni Buddhas Mother and all mothers and fathers throughout space and time (Ullambana). According to Zen Master Thch Nht Hnh, this Plum Village-Style Rose Ceremony is as important as the Ceremony for the Birth of the Buddha, for it nourishes our understanding, love, and gratitude for our parents and all beings. Our list of distinguished guests will include a delegation of Tibetan monks from Gaden Ngari Monastery in India, who are creating a special sand mandala in honor of all mothers at the Vietnamese Buddhist Monastery.

We will start the celebration with a traditional Vietnamese Dragon Dance for the whole family to enjoy. A Dharma Talk by Venerable T Kheo Thch Hng Hu and a reading of S ng Thch Nht Hanhs A Rose for Your Pocket will follow. During this Plum Village-style Rose Ceremony, all participants will be invited pin to their lapels two flowers in representation of each of their parents: a red rose if parent is still alive or a white rose if he or she is no longer alive.  We will then enjoy chanting in Vietnamese and Tibetan during the Mothers Day Mandala closing ceremony.  At about 7:00 P.M., our Rose Ceremony will be followed by joyful singing and a delicious Vietnamese vegetarian dinner. The Celebration will be conducted in English and Vietnamese.

This event is free and open to the public. However, your generosity in providing a donation or Dana for the monastic Sangha is gratefully accepted and encouraged. Your kind donation helps support the activities of the Sangha (e.g., defray the costs associated with building the sand mandala, maintaining the meditation hall, offering beverages and meals) and is greatly appreciated.
