What we're about

Mindfulness Meditation Practice in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh South Florida and beyond

We gather as a Sangha (community of practitioners) in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh to provide an opportunity to those that wish to deepen their Mindfulness Meditation Practice in the Buddhist Spiritual Tradition.

Sitting and Walking Meditation, Recitation of the Mindfulness Trainings, Dharma teachings, discussions and sharings are an integral part of our Sangha meetings.

We also offer Meditation Classes, Days of Mindfulness, Retreats, Tea Ceremonies and other Vietnamese Zen practices.

Additionally, we provide a chance to mindfully commune with nature with our Eco-Activities, Mindful Hikes, bike rides, picnics, and field trips, as well as to make new friends and socialize with a focus during our outings and Dharma Activities.

As Thay said during a Dharma Talk at the Hand of the Buddha Retreat in Plum Village:

"If we know how to live our daily life in mindfulness, concentration, and harmony, then peace, happiness, and brotherhood become a reality."

For more information about our organization and gatherings, please click here http://www.browardlotussangha.org/faq/.

We welcome the participation of people from all backgrounds, regardless of ethnic origin, race, cultural background, socio-economic class, age, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or physical ability.

We are committed to fostering a practice environment where all may touch the Dharma and find healing and nourishment.

"In society, much of our suffering comes from feeling disconnected from one another. We often do not feel a real connection even with people we live close to, such as our neighbors, our co-workers and even our family members. Each person lives separately, cut off from the support of the community. Being with the Sangha can heal these feelings of isolation and separation. We practice together, we meditate, and, together, we share and discuss the Dharma as a way of life. Just by participating with other fellow practitioners in these activities, we can experience a tangible sense of peace, love and acceptance.

Thây often says that the Sangha is a garden, full of many varieties of trees and flowers. When we can look at ourselves and at others as beautiful, unique flowers and trees we can truly grow to understand and love one another. One flower may bloom early in the spring and another flower may bloom in late summer. One tree may bear many fruits and another tree may offer cool shade. No one plant is greater, or lesser, or the same as any other plant in the garden. Each member of the Sangha also has unique gifts to offer to the community. We each have areas that need attention as well. When we can appreciate each member's contribution and see our weaknesses as potential for growth we can learn to live together harmoniously. Our practice is to see that we are a flower or a tree, and that we are the whole garden as well, all interconnected."

PLEASE GO HERE FIRST: http://www.browardlotussangha.org/faq/ During this evening's practice we will enjoy sitting and walking meditation, as well as a dharma talk, discussion, and sharing. Sometimes we also offer joyful singing or a chanting service. Please arrive by 5:45p.m. in order to give yourself a chance to sign in, mindfully settle in, and become acquainted with the Sangha. We begin our first 20-minute sitting meditation period promptly at 6:00 pm. PLEASE BE SEATED ON TIME and wear loose-fitting comfortable clothes THAT COVER YOUR KNEES AND SHOULDERS. PLEASE REMOVE YOUR SHOES BEFORE ENTERING the Meditation Hall. In addition, our Sangha continues to offer our presence, our practice, and our love and support to our Dear Teacher, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, who, at the time of this writing continues to recover from a cerebral hemorrhage in Vietnam. Thay now resides in Plum Village’s Root Temple, Chùa Từ Hiếu, in Huế, where Thay began his monastic training in 1942. The Monastic Sangha offers their deep gratitude to our global community for our continued support for our dear Teacher, both materially and spiritually. Our generous support has given Thay immense strength for his recovery, and has helped make this trip to his homeland possible. We know how precious it is to still have our dear Teacher with us, radiating great courage, strength, and presence. And we know that Thay draws his energy from the daily practice of every one of his students across the world. He is present with us, every time we take a mindful step or mindful breath, and bring peace and joy to ourselves and the world around us. As Thay said on his second return trip to Vietnam in 2007, “I’ve been a monk for 65 years, and what I have found is that there is no religion, no philosophy, no ideology higher than brotherhood and sisterhood.” Thay reminds us that with solidarity and true brotherhood and sisterhood, everything is possible. The loving embrace of the global Sangha has allowed Thay to make great progress on his path of recovery, and he is invigorated and full of joy. We know that Thay’s body finds nourishment and healing in the mindful energy generated by our Sangha body during our practice together. So the members of the four-fold Sangha continue to practice together to care for our teacher, to care for ourselves, and to care for the present moment; by doing so we can assure a bright future that contains the love of community, sisterhood and brotherhood. We are deeply grateful for the supportive energy that everyone is sending our teacher, and invite you to continue doing. 💜💟💛💙💚💜❤💛❤💙❤💗💜💚❤💛❤💟💜💙❤💚❤💜💟 About Us: The Broward Lotus Sangha (BLS) is a Community of Mindful Living in the tradition of Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh. Vesak Celebration: the Buddha's Continuation Day

BLS Davie/Weston/SW-Ranches

Around two thousand six hundred years ago, a human being known as Shakyamuni was born. He practiced the Way until understanding and love were developed to a very high degree in him, and he became a fully awakened being or Buddha. He was a beautiful and precious flower in the garden of humanity, an udumbara flower that blooms only once every three thousand years. https://www.meetup.com/LotusSangha/photos/94451/622347/ One of the most profound teachings given by the Buddha is his gentle reminder that we all have the Buddha nature inside, a Buddha within waiting to manifest when conditions are sufficient. There are certain practices that can help your Buddha nature grow stronger and more beautiful. When you sit and breathe mindfully, when you walk and eat mindfully, you can be more alive, awake and aware; this is the energy of a Buddha. Mindfulness practices help you to get in touch with peace and stability and to generate insight that can change your life positively. Becoming a Buddha is easier than you may think. Remembering Buddha on this day gives us the opportunity to consider that like the intricate petals of a lotus; our lives are inextricably interwoven with one another and with the natural world: "Cultivating the insight of inter-being and compassion, we will be able to act out of love, not fear, to protect our planet” (Buddhist Climate Change Statement to World Leaders, October 2015). Otherwise, “When the Earth becomes sick, we become sick, because we are part of her” (The Time to Act is Now, 2009). Our Teacher has often said, “The future Buddha is a community.” A four-fold community of monks, nuns, laymen and laywomen will come together for this special occasion to support one another cultivating the Buddha within, celebrating the baby Buddha in each one of us with joy and happiness: The event will begin with a formal procession, chanting, followed by a Dharma Talk, then a beautiful ceremony celebrating the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha, and the birth of the Buddha in each one of us. The Celebration will be conducted in Vietnamese with some English translation. DELICIOUS TRADITIONAL VIETNAMESE VEGAN FOOD will be available in exchange for your generous donation. This event is open to the public and offered on a donation basis in the Buddhist spirit of generosity and inclusiveness. Thus, your generosity in providing a donation or Dana is gratefully accepted and encouraged. Your kind donation helps support the activities of the Four-fold Sangha and is greatly appreciated. This event is open for both new and experienced mindfulness practitioners alike. CHILDREN and FAMILIES WELCOME! Directions: From Flamingo Rd. go West on SW 20th St. Make a Left at the Stop Sign onto dirt road (SW 127 Ave). The Temple will be on your Right (West side of the road). Proceed as directed to parking. COME CELEBRATE VESAK WITH US!
