MINDFUL VOTING DECISION 2018: GET EDUCATED & ROCK THE VOTE IN THIS ELECTION!
MINDFUL VOTING DECISION 2018: GET EDUCATED ON THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES AND ROCK THE VOTE IN THIS ELECTION!!! • NON-PARTISAN • INTERFAITH • OPEN TO THE PUBLIC In democracies, elections are a part of life. They are the time when nations come together and decide their priorities for the next several years. There are always very real issues at stake that will impact many people. Many times, election cycles can be filled with unwholesome energies. Campaigns, slogans, and advertising can water many negative seeds in ourselves, our Sangha, and our society. As engaged Buddhists, it is important that we learn about the issues, do not turn away, and VOTE RESPONSIBLY in elections. This non-partisan workshop will help you to do just that: • Get educated on the issues that appear on your ballot including Constitutional Amendments and Revisions, County Charter Questions, Judges, Senate and House seats, where to find the official "Write-In" Candidates for your ballot, etc., so you can make ETHICAL, RESPONSIBLE and MINDFUL DECISIONS while exercising your RIGHT TO VOTE; learn about mindfulness strategies to practice in the Election Season; learn about non-partisan websites and online resources where you can get unbiased information for every election. • Learn about non-partisan websites and online resources where you can get unbiased information for every election • Learn useful mindfulness strategies to vote with confidence year after year • Do not be misled by fake news, dark money, and special interests: GET EDUCATED • HOLD YOUR VOTE UNTIL YOU HAVE ATTENDED THIS IMPORTANT EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP!!! You will still have PLENTY OF TIME to take advantage of EARLY VOTING (10/22-11/4/18), MAIL IN YOUR ABSENTEE BALLOT, or VOTE ON NOVEMBER 6TH • BRING YOUR ABSENTEE BALLOT, sample ballot, and/or a notepad to jot down important information • EVERYONE IS WELCOME! • BRING YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS • This event Sponsored by: --Broward Lotus Sangha --Blooming Lotus Sangha --Vietnamese Cultural Center of Florida, Inc. --League of Women Voters --Lotus Institute Form Mindful Living, Inc. --Tu Vien Huong Hai Buddhist Monastery There are ways we can use our practice to mindfully relate to the U.S. elections, campaigns, and fight for social justice. There are ways to offer our position and our ethics in a way that uses language that is healing and inspires hope. Living Mindfully and following mindful ethical guidelines encourage us to take care of our anger, cultivate calm and kindness, reflect on wrong perceptions, utilize non-violent communication, and aspire for reconciliation, peace, and mutual well-being and understanding. We speak truthful words—without causing division—as we stand against oppression and injustice. With our Mindfulness Practice, we can water the flower of understanding in one another, express our insights, speak to the ethics of daily living, share our personal stories, express gratitude, and respectfully request a candidate or political party take a specific action that we believe will be of greatest benefit to our planet and our society. 🇺🇸 IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND OUR COMPREHENSIVE WORKSHOP for whatever reason, The League of Women Voters will be offering other presentations in Broward County: https://www.lwvbroward.org/events/ (Please visit https://lwv.org/ for nationwide info) https://www.vote411.org/ https://www.iwillvote.com/learn/vote/ https://www.mindful-vote.com/ https://www.rockthevote.org https://www.lwvbroward.org https://www.lwv.org COME SIT WITH US AND LEARN HOW TO VOTE MINDFULLY! What we're about

Mindfulness Meditation Practice in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh South Florida and beyond

We gather as a Sangha (community of practitioners) in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh to provide an opportunity to those that wish to deepen their Mindfulness Meditation Practice in the Buddhist Spiritual Tradition.

Sitting and Walking Meditation, Recitation of the Mindfulness Trainings, Dharma teachings, discussions and sharings are an integral part of our Sangha meetings.

We also offer Meditation Classes, Days of Mindfulness, Retreats, Tea Ceremonies and other Vietnamese Zen practices.

Additionally, we provide a chance to mindfully commune with nature with our Eco-Activities, Mindful Hikes, bike rides, picnics, and field trips, as well as to make new friends and socialize with a focus during our outings and Dharma Activities.

As Thay said during a Dharma Talk at the Hand of the Buddha Retreat in Plum Village:

"If we know how to live our daily life in mindfulness, concentration, and harmony, then peace, happiness, and brotherhood become a reality."

We welcome the participation of people from all backgrounds, regardless of ethnic origin, race, cultural background, socio-economic class, age, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or physical ability.

We are committed to fostering a practice environment where all may touch the Dharma and find healing and nourishment.

"In society, much of our suffering comes from feeling disconnected from one another. We often do not feel a real connection even with people we live close to, such as our neighbors, our co-workers and even our family members. Each person lives separately, cut off from the support of the community. Being with the Sangha can heal these feelings of isolation and separation. We practice together, we meditate, and, together, we share and discuss the Dharma as a way of life. Just by participating with other fellow practitioners in these activities, we can experience a tangible sense of peace, love and acceptance.

Thây often says that the Sangha is a garden, full of many varieties of trees and flowers. When we can look at ourselves and at others as beautiful, unique flowers and trees we can truly grow to understand and love one another. One flower may bloom early in the spring and another flower may bloom in late summer. One tree may bear many fruits and another tree may offer cool shade. No one plant is greater, or lesser, or the same as any other plant in the garden. Each member of the Sangha also has unique gifts to offer to the community. We each have areas that need attention as well. When we can appreciate each member's contribution and see our weaknesses as potential for growth we can learn to live together harmoniously. Our practice is to see that we are a flower or a tree, and that we are the whole garden as well, all interconnected."
