New Meetup: EB Regional Parks Trail Challenge

Announcing a new Meetup for Random Unfocused Group for Active Intellectual Singles!

What: EB Regional Parks Trail Challenge

When: Saturday, March 27,[masked]:00 AM

Where:
Wildcat Canyon Park, Alvarado staging area
5755 McBryde Ave
Richmond, CA 94805

For our first Trail Challenge I have selected Wildcat Canyon Regional Park. It's fairly close.
We start from the Gate at Wildcat Canyon Staging Area, this is about 1/4 mile past Alvarado Park.

Let's meet at the gate at 9:00 am, gather, discuss how long/far we want to go, and wait about ten minutes for late-comers. I would like to keep the length of walk open to the needs of the group, but I am game for the whole shabang.

Bring lots of water, and your guess is as good as mine for what the weather will be like. Dress in layers, it can get windy or hot up there.

This Trail Challenge Hike is rated at: Easy (4.44 RT miles), Moderate (6.8 RT miles +~400' elevation gain) and Hard (10.38 RT miles).

I suggest that we bring lunches so if we choose to take the whole route we can picnic on top of the ridge, the views are beautiful. So don't forget your cameras or binoculars.

EBRPD Offers the following advice:
Hikers: As a general rule, hiking one mile on relatively flat terrain at a moderate pace takes
approximately ? hour. Beginners should plan one hour for every two miles of hiking. For hikes
labeled ?challenging,? or days when the temperature is over 90 degrees, allow extra time and
take more water! Hikers should wear sturdy shoes with ankle support.

Trail Etiquette:
? Check trail signs for allowable user groups (i.e. cyclists, equestrians).
? Hikers yield to horses; cyclists and skaters yield to hikers and horses.
? Leave the wildfl owers for wildlife.
? Stay on designated trails. Do not cut switchbacks or take shortcuts!
? Keep dogs on leashes. Unless specifi cally posted that they can be off leash.
? Pack it in, pack it out, do not litter!
? Cyclists must have bike bells and call out when passing.
